Marlenny, I'm 27. Maybe the fact that I'm perpetually in school keeps me youthful. :D And yes, Detta, I did attend UK for grad school. I also was raised in Louisville. EDIT: Also, no worries, Aran! I can't grow a beard to save my life either. :) [ Thursday, October 20, 2005 10:07: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

The subject was trees, and salmon said, 'I wish we had oak in my neck of the woods...' You do know what a pun is, don't you? -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Polaris Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

What does the expression "my neck of the woods" refer to? [ Friday, October 21, 2005 01:49: Message edited by: Atrus ] -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Native speakers of what? Yes, Thuryl looks like he's grown a bit. Still too cute and too young for me though. Salmon, we've got a lot of Oak trees in Richmond. All that wood came from trees that fell down all over the city. We split it up and deliver it to elderly and handicapped people who can't afford to heat their homes. Thanks spy.there. It's good to see you too. Bill's doing great. He's still a cranky cat, but he's MY cranky cat! One last thing. If you have to explain it, it becomes way less punny. It seems like it was more double entendre than pun. -------------------- Take the Personality Test! INTJ 100% 75% 100% 44% Huzzah for the Masterminds! www.Keirsey.com for personality information. It was a clever play on words...which according to dictionary.com, is the definition of "pun". Posts: 81 | Registered: Sunday, June 6 2004 07:00 |

I think people are trying to suggest that the expression ("my neck of the woods") was well-chosen for a discussion of trees, since, after all, the expression can be used with regard to anything ("I wish we had more cars in my neck of the woods"). This doesn't make it a pun or a double entendre; it's just a relevant figure of speech. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Not to break up the surely very fascinating conversation going on in here, but how about some more pictures? I'd gladly put up some of me, if they weren't so heinous compared to all the other lovelies. Mind you, that's just when considering your tastes, which I don't hold very high. ^^ -------------------- "Son--err," her father said, "I mean... Daughter, I give you your first and only sword. Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
