Marlenny, I'm 27. Maybe the fact that I'm perpetually in school keeps me youthful. :D

And yes, Detta, I did attend UK for grad school. I also was raised in Louisville.

EDIT: Also, no worries, Aran! I can't grow a beard to save my life either. :)

That's a fine looking mess of firewood Detta. I wish we had oak in my neck of the woods, I'm stuck with fir and maple.

Good thing it's not usually required to do so, huh?

:P Ah, the mystery is solved! In the larger version it is very obvious that you are not this Moon person.
You also don't look like Thuryl from the very first picture though ... Maybe it's the new haircut ^_^

edit: Hi Detta! Nice to see you again. How is your cat?

Well, I've aged two years since the first picture was taken. Also, the second picture was obviously taken under different lighting conditions, using flash photography.

The subject was trees, and salmon said, 'I wish we had oak in my neck of the woods...'

You do know what a pun is, don't you?

What does the expression "my neck of the woods" refer to?

There's no pun.

It's an idiom that means "where I live". As Drakey said, it's unlikely that a pun was intended.

Native speakers of what?

Yes, Thuryl looks like he's grown a bit. Still too cute and too young for me though.

Salmon, we've got a lot of Oak trees in Richmond. All that wood came from trees that fell down all over the city. We split it up and deliver it to elderly and handicapped people who can't afford to heat their homes.

Thanks spy.there. It's good to see you too. Bill's doing great. He's still a cranky cat, but he's MY cranky cat!

One last thing. If you have to explain it, it becomes way less punny.

It seems like it was more double entendre than pun.

It's not a pun! It's a common expression.

It was a clever play on words...which according to dictionary.com, is the definition of "pun".

I think people are trying to suggest that the expression ("my neck of the woods") was well-chosen for a discussion of trees, since, after all, the expression can be used with regard to anything ("I wish we had more cars in my neck of the woods"). This doesn't make it a pun or a double entendre; it's just a relevant figure of speech.

I'm not. While I'm more or less fluent, I have to ask about idioms ever so often.

Not to break up the surely very fascinating conversation going on in here, but how about some more pictures? I'd gladly put up some of me, if they weren't so heinous compared to all the other lovelies. Mind you, that's just when considering your tastes, which I don't hold very high. ^^

Aran, ich schimpfte dich nich, weil mein Deutsch nicht besser ist.

(Und, erklich zu sein, muss ich sagen, dass sein Englisch ziemlich besser ist.)

Ich sagte nur, dass die Leute, die den Phrase nicht gekannt haben, kaum sagen können, dass sie gebürtige Sprechere sind.

(Und, naja, ich weiß, dass ich eine Menge Vehler gemacht habe. -_-)
