The 4th of July is my personal favorite holiday. Not that I actively care much about independence (though I'm sure I would if I didn't have any) but because setting fire to things that go boom is highly entertaining. I went to see a bonfire up in Rockport tonight. It was big. They had a big pile of wooden pallets with a little house on top. It was really hot. Before that, I went to a restaurant and had stuffed baked haddock. Also, I just received word that my cat KitKat's daughter Cutie, who belonged to my uncle, died tonight. She was sick, I think. All I know is she wasn't eating for a few days. Everybody should grieve for Cutie now. My condolences, ADoS. The only fireworks I see are my neighbours fireworks he 'obtains' before New Years Eve, and sets them off. I didn't do much of anything this July 4. Usually I at least go to the town's fireworks display and shoot off a few in the alley, but I didn't bother to do either today. Ahhhh Living in a small rural community really pays off in spades on the blow'em up holidays (there are more than one :P ). We went downtown and were entertained by all the families shooting off their illegal fireworks from Washington, then a 30 minute display of official fireworks, and now is the best! Everyone out in the country shoots their guns into the air/ground/trees/loose crap lying around the fields/outbuildings/beer cans. Sweet mother of god the dogs are hiding underneath each other now. Poor puppies. Sorry to hear about Cutie, but it's good that KitKat is keeping her chin up about the news. Cats are good like that, my dog will mope for days if I go out fishing all night and leave him "alone." Not necessarily, for those of us in Utah. We have a state holiday, the 24th of July, to celebrate the settling of the Salt Lake Valley by the pioneers. There aren't nearly as many big fireworks shows, but plenty of small fireworks can be found. July is practically fireworks month. I watched the city fireworks in the park largely by accident - I went there to talk to people and ended up sitting on the other side of a tree from the fireworks. The ones worth seeing made it above the tree, luckily, but there weren't many. Smaller towns always seem to have better fireworks, anyway... I celebrated the 4th by reading the newspaper. I didn't see any fireworks. I was at my grandparent's house, 33 miles from any substantial city, and my grandpa doesn't like fireworks because of the danger of starting a fire. So I'll have to live with that. I'm currently over in western Oregon, headed to the ocean tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to that. I remember last Guy Falks (Our big fireworks event) me and a bunch of mates went to the beach and opened up one of those big fireworks that shoots like 50 little balls and put individual fuses in each one and had our own little war. It was funny to be sitting around thinking yourself safe only to see a flaming stick fly over and shoot at you. Someone got hit in the head from 1 metre and got knocked over. Ah the fun.
