Tower of Babil? Do you remember the original "Join Us"? That was one of the best RPs ever, and it really set the precedent for future RPs here. It is plotless, at first, but then you develop the plot. Really though Dolney, the first post of the original one had the world laid out and a description of all the nations, like Onea on Polaris. I might join this, if someone can get a structure up. -------------------- The many faces of Logalot -------------------- Polaris Roleplaying and Debating Board- 'Nuf said -------------------- Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. You people don't even understand the concept of RPing. What you do is write stories, one post at a time, in the form of a script. You cannot deface the name of RPing by claiming this is it. I will not allow it. You can continue your fun little games, but call it something else. Trust me...you missed it by a long shot. -------------------- Since Imban Likes to Edit my Posts ... ... Well, I'll join...and for those who love to complain about everything, an inn a good place to start an RP. Delgar walks into the inn, looking about with mild distaste and a slight sigh of regret. Walking up to the bar, he sits down, ordering some quality wine ('quality wine, not like the stuff the fellow down the road serves...') and began to listen. Fairly soon, he heard someone calling himself Alex asking lots of questions about a cult called the Red Eye cult. He'd heard of it-one of the many quasi-religious power groups that was continually springing up. It appeared to have its own private army and some kind of limited magical power, but nothing so that anyone in power was interested. However, this Alex appeared to have gold, and gold was what Delgar needed. 'Excuse me, I'm afraid I overheard your conversation and I couldn't help hearing you mentioning the Red Eye cult, is that correct?' 'Yes, I want to find out where they are. They destroyed my home village and killed my family, and I'm after revenge.' 'Very well. If you'll come with me to my laboratory, we'll see what we can find out. If you're prepared to spend a little money, that is...' 'Money? I don't have that much, but I'd willingly spend it to get revenge on those murderers. (OOC: Dolney, you'll need to decide exactly how much you do have...) But what was that about a labo..a whatever you said?' 'Ah. I am a mage, quite a skilled one, although I say it myself. I specialise in scrying and illusions, and have built myself a plethora of scrying equipment with which I hope I can find out whatever you want to know. How difficult it is to find this out will decide how much you need to pay me.' 'Good. Let's go, then, it's getting late in the day.' They head off. While they're approaching Delagar's house/laboratory, I'll explain a little about him: He's not a combat mage. While he can produce some feeble magic bolts, they hardly have any effect, and a fireball would be beyond his powers. What he is, however, is a scryer and an illusionist. His scrying ability is what has him (usually) quite wealthy, wealthy enough to maintain a large, well-apportioned house in the richest part of what is a relatively large town-people are willing to pay a great deal to find out what their business rivals are doing, not to mention law enforcement officials who want to see what criminals are planning. His ablilties as an illusionist are what keep him alive in potentially dangerous situations, either multiplying himself or becoming invisible when threatened. He is a relatively accomplished fencer, although he prefers to trust in illusion than his sword. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. People If you don't like it why do you post your just bringing it to the top. If you want a good one help us make it good start one for us to join. The reason i picked an inn is because a lot of people go to an inn and you can hear things. *Dralnok appears outside of the inn(does this place have a name?) Dralnok: I wonder what asinine quest I'm gonna end up doing now... *Dralnok enters the inn and walks up to the counter. Dralnok: Barkeep, get me some ale. OOC: Dralnok is a mage who mainly uses 2 strange magical wands that can't kill on the first shot, but will kill on the second shot, and a staff that fires an energy blast. And Dralnok is also a bit phsyco and won't think twice about killing anyone. Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

OOC: Actually they fire a little faster than a hand gun, so multiple shots in seconds is easy to do(see Stargate SG-1). Dralnok is constantly sent on mindless quests by an unknown force who usually sticks Dralnok into an area and let's him figure out what to do(much like most of the RPGs in existance) IC: Dralnok: Where's my ale? Barkeep: Here you go sir. *Dralnok drinks the ale, then sits and listens to local rumors for a bit. Someguy: ...I tell you, there's something in the sewers... Someperson: ...Yep, strange things be happenin in tha grave yard. Dralnok: (That sounds like a possibility for something to do) OOC: Zats can't effect undead. IC: Dralnok: (but the sewers seem just as good a place to search... I know, I'll hit the graveyard first) *Dralnok gets up and heads out the door. Then Dralnok returns and asks directions to the graveyard. Finally Dralnok leaves for the graveyard. OOC: Anyone's welcomed to jion me. Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

I thought this thing probably needed a little structuring, so here it is: I've made a world map, which I've uploaded here. The quality is rather poor, but it'll do. If anyone can't read any of the place-names, just ask, and I'll e-mail you a better quality copy. For some reason, the uploader shrunk it slightly... Mondri (North-east) is the capital city of the Mondri Empire, which is (loosely) bordered by the desert, the Keal river, and the sea. It also maintains nominal control over Talek and Firset. The Ostet Empire is based in Caston, and rules the eastern part of the large continent. Sefil is essentially an anarchy, in that it has no government as such. It's people call themselves the Free Men of Sefil. Forek and Kadib are also inhabited by Free Men. The bottom left continent, Halidor, is all ruled by the King of Halidor, who resides in Halden. All the people so far have been humans, although there are non-humans in this world too...anyone who wants to drag in nonhumans can, they just don't rule anywhere, except on Mafor, the south-east continent, which is occupied by a mysterious race known to humanity as the Maforans. No-one knows what they are known to themselves as, since they have very few dealings with humanity. By the way, there are plenty more towns/cities than I've shown, these are just the main ones. Feel free to make some up... I hope that's given some structure to the plot. By the way, we're starting in Kadib. Just because I say so. (Someone has to decide these things...) -E- [ Wednesday, July 16, 2003 12:50: Message edited by: Omlette ] -------------------- Let them eat cake! Polaris Boards: The System is Up. Perennially. OOC: For the sake of good ol' Join Us RP, I'll join... IC: Logalot closed his book. It was his third one today. Old age simply didn't suit him. He though that Caston would be a nice place to retire, but it turned out to be intolerably boring. He looked out his window, at all the young people walking about outside. This wasn't how he wanted to go. He didn't want to die of a heart attack or something mundane like that, he'd like to be killed by a rouge king, because Logalot had defied his unjust rule. 'That almost happened...' he reminded himself. He smiled on his old adventuring days, meeting up with Meeko, having Drezin join them, and all the others, destroying the Blood Ruby... It was just another happenence when the energy scattered all of them into a different universe, in different places... He had done some minor things here too, nothing big. He wondered if he was famous back home, how the forest was... He had forgotten almost all his training. He reflected on the past for about an hour before the newspaper came. He opened it up. The headline horrified and pleased him at the same time: 'Thousands slaughtered by evil cult!' He read on a bit... They didn't know the name of the cult, the press never did. Then it occured to him, this was his big chance. He ran up to his mantle and grabbed his sword, old, but it would do. He wondered what his neighbors were thinking as he ran out into the street with a sword. First he had to get out of this mundane city and find out where the action was. He wondered if anyone would join him in his quest for justice, greed, and not going senile. -------------------- The many faces of Logalot -------------------- Polaris Roleplaying and Debating Board- 'Nuf said -------------------- Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Tina, the tiny, saw him run. She'd had a very satisfying morning on the marketplace, where she'd tumbled the grocer's counter. She giggled. After that she'd chosen to feed a stray dog with the butcher's meat and lured Miss Ogden's cat into the pandemonium. Nibbling daintily on an apricot, rocking happily on her tree branch, she now had to make plans for her afternoon. That old man running around with a sword as if hell was after him, interesting. What was he up to? No good probably. Exciting. Her eyes followed him a while. Then, having finished her apricot, dancing on a twig, mischief in her eyes, the little sprite opened her wings. Her afternoon would be given to ...research. [ Wednesday, July 16, 2003 13:26: Message edited by: ef ] -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

OOC: Wise Man is at IoB, therefore I use Maestro. IC: Flying above the city in his new flight pack, Maestro caught a newspaper floating into the sky, and read the headlines. Wise Man said there would be work here, Maestro said to himself. He was right. Dropping the newspaper, the wily blademaster noticed an old man running around with an almost equally old sword. He must be enlisting for the same task. I should talk to him. Using his mind to control the flight pack (flight packs are controlled by the brain), he dived down, stopping right above the old man, and landed in front of him, startling the aged creature. "Hello there, old one," Maestro greeted, giving a quick, small bow for courtesy. He respected all elders, and equals in battle. "I see you've heard about this cult around the city. If you're going for the task, let's band together." -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. OOC: Maybe for the future we should limit this to one IC post per day, although I know I'm breaking this rule now, who is with me? IC: Logalot was at the edge of town when he saw something that looked like a golden blur fly at him, maybe it was a fireball! Logalot swung his sword at whatever it was and the golden blue moved away and stopped zooming around. "Touchy!" the apparent sprite remarked, giggling. Logalot frowned he didn't much care for sprites, they weren't around in his universe, so he wasn't used to the havoc they often caused here. "Can't be too careful" He frowned the sprite buzzed around giggling. "She ceased giggling and buzzing around and hovered in front of Logalot's face. "I suppose I should introduce myself, I'm Tina the Tiny, and I'm a sprite!" "I noticed" Logalot mumbled "Who are you?" "Logalot" he said simply. "What's an old man like you doing running around with a sword?" "Well, it's like I said, you can't be too careful." "Uh-Huh, right, now come on tell me the truth!" "I need to go!" He started running away from the sprite. She followed him, and she was much faster. Once again she stopped in front of his face. "Well?" "Argh! If you must know, I'm off to adventure, and I don't need you disturbing me while I search for that cult!" "Oh! You mean the Red Eye cult! I can help you find them!" This sparked his interest "Oh, well cmon then." He started walking and she buzzed excitedly around him, giggling. "What do you know about them?" "Well, not much, but let me tell you..." -------------------- The many faces of Logalot -------------------- Polaris Roleplaying and Debating Board- 'Nuf said -------------------- Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.
