Eh, Avernum was never truly about characters, it was about doing quests, getting loot, and killing things. Erika, Solberg, Bon-Ihrno, and Rentar-Ihrno are the closest we get to actual characters, and there isn't a lot to them other than their primary motivations for what they do. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! One thing that's bothered me...So where does the helium in the sacks come from? I mean, it it leaks out, how does the Vlish get more? Does it go down to the grocery store and suck on the tank of helium at the expense of kids not getting their birthday party baloons? -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Implementation and minor plot ideas are probably very much within realm of being used. However, premises for entire games are likely not going to be. The reason is that it's a lot of work to make your own world, but at least you have the creativity of it being your own ideas. To make someone else's is the same amount of work, without the creative side. This I agree with Jeff on. Personally, for the next game, I would like to see something totally different. We know about the Avernites and their plight, we know about the Shapers and their rebel adversaries. However, it would be really nice to start with a whole new world with a different and more fresh background. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! I can neither confirm nor deny said confirm feature, giving such confirmation would result in confirming such a confirm option which is not to be confirmed nor denied, especially when confirmation is done about confirming. :P -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! quote:The legality of the bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki are on fiarly firm ground. It's a difficult situation considering the situation of total war (civilians were trained to fight in an invasion too so the lines between civilain and soldier are a bit gray here). There are no easy choices in war, but it came down to lots lost on both sides, or lots lost on theirs. It is quite likely the bombings saved lives in the long run. Add this with the fact that the US was fighting back from a defensive war (Pearl Harbor) against an enemy that refused to surrender and wanted to continue fighting. One could argue the morality a lot of ways. I doubt there were many good choices to end the war within the mindsets of the people fighting it. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Hard to say. Jeff's audience also contains a lot of old school gamers too, remnants of simpler era long gone. These people, I suspect, would not necessarily buy into the whole World of Warcraft thing. Good point, however. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! quote:I don't think they both weaken each other, they add to each other. Looking at it from both perspectives enhances Stalker. Taking a sum of the two views like they were numbers on the same axis makes little sense. The fact that some people can view him as a hero makes him a better villain/antagonist in my mind. The reason, he's more human and believeable. quote:You were the one to bring the matter up. quote:What? I don't understand what you mean here. If I choose, as a player, to take the mindset of someone who dislikes the tyranny of the Empire, I would definitely have sympathy for Stalker. You see, as part of a Role Playing Game, we can take the mindset of someone in the game and divorce ourselves from our personal convictions. quote:And exactly how were you personally harmed by this such that you have something to forgive? -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power!
