if a vahnatai PC race was created, i think it would be perfectlly logical to give them a rather strong penalty in stregth after all- no vahnatai even com ewith boots, sndals, pants, sheilds, or armour- just swords, razordisks, a poncho, and perhaps a gold trinket and some coinage- not indicitive of a particulery hearty, or strong race. an idea I've always been interested in, and perhaps could be well fulfilled in an Avernum game is essentially what the BoE scenario creator brett Bixler came up with- that is, using portals to enter other realms/univeres/realities- it would be quite interesting to advature in a new world, perhaps discovered by the empire, that is currentlly being annexed by the empire; giving th epayer th eoption to help instll peace, and prosperity, and the other beniftis fo the empire (when it has an at least mildlly sane ruler) or the option to resist the empire, in the name of uniquness and freedom from what could be considered forign domination... it takign place in a new world gives the player many opertunties to explore uncharted wilderness, fight strange new monsters and beasts, and do many other sort of side quests- perhaps even exploring ancient ruins of a people who once inhabited siad realm, but have since vanished- and all of it woudl work into enderaing the populace to you, and your particuler cause. I think it should be a matter of choice. Say for example: You pick a vahnatai character, you start out with fellow vahnatai You pick a Slith, you start out in a slith fort You pick a nephil, you start out with nephilim An if you pick a human, you start out with humans Thats just my idea, but I think it would be kind of cool. -------------------- You can take my Windows XP when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! quote:Bah, who would like the vahnatai ;) well, while I certianlly wouldnt mind the vahnatai (all for the empire! ;) ) i suppose thier are probably alot more people willign to side with the vahnatai then the ye olde Imperium; though of course, its all just speculation (but I can still hope A4 is a game that involoves directlly kicking vahnatai arse ;) ) Posts: 59 | Registered: Friday, December 24 2004 08:00 |

quote:first off, thank you for filling me on the matter :) now then- I can definatelly see your point, and to say the least, wish i could see into the mind of Jeff, and take a little (or rather a huge) peep at what hes got planned; when I wrote those ideas of mine, I wasnt evne thinign that (the enitre vahnatai-overused thing) and I see how, if it was a big vahantai war, it could be used in that; though I still think that dukeing it out with the vahantai woudl have a bit of a different feel to it then bashing in assorted beasts ;) I suppose the best option for a story line that wont infringe on the vahantai is indeed somthing to do with the rise of the empire itself... which I for one would enjoy- but then I'm a history nut, and love how the empire, probabley completelly unintentionally, bares a great reselblence to the Roman empire in the late 3rd century (usless fact of the day? I think so ;D) so I'd be more then willignt o shell out soem dough for somethign alogn thos elines (though, I'd buy anythign to do with avernum really- although, I'm kinda sad it will be in a different game engine- I;m very close to completeing a custom PC graphic set, and it would be a shame to have it limited to the previous 3 avernums + BOA *note, I myself play on a PC, though I honestlly prefer playign it on a mac, because it looks better on them, the access to art files is easy as can be, and so I can pick, choose, and replace at my leasure- somthign I never found out how to do on a mac) Posts: 59 | Registered: Friday, December 24 2004 08:00 |

quote:not to take away, but its always seemed to me like magic was the "technology" in Avernum- after all, the empire and the vahantai at least both control a fair number magical "factories", with attendent lazer beams, communcation crytals, and portals for rapid transportation- heck, if you compare, the lifestyle of a mage is probaly somthign to be envied by even the most rich and powerful, with all the tech needs and watns addressed in full... besides FF7 sucks ;) [ Friday, December 24, 2004 16:18: Message edited by: The Freshmaker ] Posts: 59 | Registered: Friday, December 24 2004 08:00 |

well, first off, hello all, I'm a bit new here on the forums :) now then, after that briefe introduction, time to get the opinion on; Now, I havent read through the entirety of this thread, only the first, and last page- but, from those two, I gather that feelings are mixed about A4- well, why is that; personally, as a long time fan of the Exile,Nethergate, and Avernum series (the only fantast games that have ever really appealed to me, and the only games that keep me coming back for more- other then civ3) I cant say just how happy I am about it! Its been a dream of mine for a while that new Avernum game would come out- somthign more bulky, and dare I say, enjoyable, and engrossing then many BOA/BOE scenarios (of whice only the "spheres trilogy" by ye olde brett bixler engrossed me very much) to come out- and persoanlly, I'm hopeing that it will take up the major plot lien that was left dropped off after Avernum/Exile 3- -the Vahnatai- It seems to me that the best candidate for a next game takes place in a great war between the Vahnatai, and Avernum/the Empire- or perhaps just the empire, as no one said Avernum still wouldnt be annexed by them, after the peace came about ;) after all- Avernum 3 is all about Avernum and the Empire getting together tomakeone big happy, well managed by non insane rulers, empire- and that the empire and the avernites just made a blood fued with the vahnatai- it woudl make sense that a new game woudl take place then. of course, a prequel dealing with the intial settlement of Avernum woudl be cool as well- or evena game deal with the birth/intial expansion of the empire itself... now, i could by wrong, and wouldnt be surprised if I am- but thats just what it seems to me like what the most likelly candidate would be, and, regardless, would make a very awesome game :) Posts: 59 | Registered: Friday, December 24 2004 08:00 |
