New Scenario: Tales From the Tabard Inn in Blades of Avernum

This is indeed a unique scenario. It was very intriguing to play the overall tale through the perspective of each of the characters. It seemed a little buggy in that you had to try various clicks and actions to get the character or program to move when the character was deposited in a new situation surrounded on the screen by blackness, but this was overshadowed by the richness and convolutions of the plot. Maybe a bit too much text for the Hack-and-Slash crowd, but I really enjoyed it.

GOOD WORK LAZARUS!

Hi,
I'm under Hatherond in the room with the choice of three levers to arrange in any combination of left or right. I assume that the reference in the book on the pedestal to "Storeroom 5733" means that you are supposed to arrange the levers in positions that will cause the multiplication and addition to result in a total of 5733. I can’t figure out how to make that happen. What is the proper arrangement of the levers?
Thanks

Thanks for the tips Dikiyoba and Lazarus. It was the rocks across the stream that I missed. Now I am trapped in a small dungeon after getting hit across the head. Am I supposed to just wait from something to happen? I can see the crack in the wall, but I don't see how to get through it.

Hi, I have another Frostbite question. We are at a cave to take shelter from a storm. I have been sent outside to gather firewood. I have met Erasmus who is studying a map outside. He has asked me to do two quests. He wants me to find Holly Berries and to find a peak ahead called Condor Height. I have wandered everywhere I can but I can't find either. Any suggestions?

Thanks Dikiyoba. That was the problem. I was able to finish this rather unusual scenario.

Actually, all of the scenarios from this contest were unusual and/or quite entertaining. Once again, we lurkers thank all of the usual hard workers in this forum for producing some good entertainment. We may not say much, but we appreciate all of the efforts.

I have tried to get down the stairs to the basement area, but it says "There is not much on this level, mostly supplies and the rear exit of the command center" and will not let me leave. I have tried to drop off the Emblem at the center of the entrance to the Command Center as requested, but although I've moved around every inch of what I think is the Entrance, nothing drops. I looked in my "Items" section and there is no Emblem there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the links guys, I've put them in my "favorites". Just one more comment on this thread and then I'll shut up about it. I am sure that there are many BoA fans like me who have PLAYED it for years but will not be content creators like you. So, I’ll speak now for the “Lurkers”. Most of the topics on the Spiderweb Message Board are between you "creators" so we usually don't chime in because we don't really have that much to offer to the discussion. That does not mean it is not good reading though. I brown-bag it here at work and sit at my computer at lunch hour, ready to answer phoned in tech support questions. Between calls I play my Spiderweb games or read the forum content. I like the Spiderweb games because they will play on a typical low-end office machine. The games are playable because they have story-lines unlike the mindless shoot-em-ups that make up most of the shareware titles. Your posts in the forums are stories too, with each of you having certain personalities from student to wise sage to cynic to boorish critic to comedian. The forums are like an ongoing side story line. I hope you don't take offense because none is intended. I thought you would be interested in knowing that the forums are part of the entertainment.

Keep it up!
:)

I think it must have been easier at one time, or I never would have found it. I thought that clicking on the BoA icon in the "Download" section would immediately start a download. Since I already had the game I was reluctant to press the icon. It will stop many people from going any further.

You people really work hard at creating these scenarios and I think they should be more prominently displayed by Spiderweb. It is the gamer-created scenarios that make BoA playable well after the original group of Spiderweb scenarios are played out. If it weren’t for your extra scenarios, I would not come back to the Spiderweb site month after month, and then I would not see or buy Jeff’s next game. I believe his success is a direct result of the effort put into these scenarios.

Keep up the good work!
:)

When you say the scenarios are "put on the tables" can you tell me where those tables have gone? It used to be easy to find the scenarios and their ratings, but it seems to me that they have pulled the tables off of the Spiderweb site. If you can find them, can you post a link?

Thanks :)

Thanks Dikiyoba and Nioca. You guys always seem ready to help out. There are three columns just outside of the problem gates. When I touch them, they seem to take stones that I apparently have but cannot see and change their colors, but I can't make any sense of the changes. The person who created this scenario (nlambert1 ?) didn’t finish the read-me files to describe this puzzle. I finally gave up and used the editor to leave the town. I hope the scenario will still work.

I also hope there will be another batch of scenarios for Blades of Avernum soon. Do you know why the scenarios aren't published on the Spiderweb site like they used to be?
:)

Hi, I'm currently stuck in the Scenario SHIPWRECKED and I'm looking for suggestions. I think I'm near the end, in an isolated area that I was transported to called Cherayeng (Upper and Lower Core). I seem to have solved all but one puzzle and I can't get out of this area. The only puzzle I have not solved will open the gates to a room that appears to contain 4 boxes. When I come up to the gate, a messages says "There is another locked gate in your way. This one has three depressions on the ground, which are colored red, green and blue respectively. You don't have anything which is the right size and color to fill all three sockets."
The message is right in that I have checked my inventory and special items and I do not have and colored stones, although I seem to remember picking at least two of them up. Also , when using Far-sight I do not see any passages out of this area. Does one of the boxes contain a teleportation spell?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for you suggestions. The answer was to go back to an earlier save, and then ask Pithoss what to do next. He then said go to the king Kalthanas and ask for help. That gave me the companion fighters I needed in the Bandit's Camp. I also tried using the editor to leave the town as suggested. However, that just kept causing strange errors that have me even dying in the lava fields with the text saying that the Bandits had surrounded me again. This was even though I was fighting lizards. :)

In Exodus, at the Bandit Camp south of Thassaka I have beaten the Bandits several times, but every time I try to leave after the battle when there are no Bandits left, it says "You flee the battle as more and more bandits come charging in. They follow and attack you from behind. You never even saw it coming.". Then my whole party dies.

The Read-me file says you "Need to get Kalthanas's help or face auto-death when leaving the town". I have talked to Kalthanas several times to see if he would offer this "help" but he never does. For this reason I enter the Bandit camp alone and get auto-deathed.

Any suggestions?

I had this same problem when I got to the River Parting Scene in Exodus. I got the Handling Exception Error EVERY time that cut-scene ended. As mentioned in the Read-me files for the game, there is a problem handling really high level parties. I restarted the game with a lower level party and the problem went away. This occurs early enough in the game that starting over is not really a big deal. I’ve seen a similar problem in other scenarios where you periodically see a message in the bottom box that says the party level is too high and has been re-set. The game usually moves on from that point though.

Hope this helps. :)

:) Thanks Nioka, That did the trick. I was thinking that you had to drop all four items at once and THEN something would happen. It was much easier to do it one at a time.

I am enjoying Rats Aplenty, but I'm stuck at one particular point. In the Lost City, I have accumulated the 4 ancient items, but I cannot seem to place them in the spots near the statues that will cause the gates to open. In Smoo's walkthrough, he says "...place the ancient items by the correct statues (guess I just don't want to look which goes where right now. The sword goes next to the helmet I think).....

I need more help than that. Has anybody figured out the correct sequence? Thanks :)

Well, I suppose two years is a long time to lurk, but there is a lot to READ on the message boards. Who knows how many others may just be reading all of these messages over-your-shoulder so to speak. I usually find the answers to my questions already on the board.

That was going to be my next question, where is space (0,0)? The rooms are often oddly shaped though and covered in tiles with even more squares on them. It makes it tough to count without going cross-eyed. Thanks for your help.

Greetings, I am currently enjoying Bahssikava. When I got to the puzzle in the "Machinery" level I needed to resort to the walk-through guide. However, in the guide the author refers to moving the mirrors to numbered spaces, for example SPACE (36,25) and SPACE (28,20). I understand the concept of locating oneself on a grid, but can anyone tell me how you find the grid squares to count? Thanks in advance for any help.
