Well, here's something that always works:

Pick a scripting language other than BoA (C or C++ should work, possibly Java or Python, too). Study it for long hours until you can make a legitimate program that works and that you're proud of. Make some fancy GUI for it or something...then return back to BoA scripting and find that it's about 200x easier, but in somewhat the same format.

It actually isn't a bad idea, like the saying goes, "Run the 10k a few times and the mile will just be a few steps compared to it."

The best solution for understanding scripting is to try it out, make test scripts and see what they do...follow the docs step by step and if you get stuck on something, post it on this forum.

Very extremely helpful tip:

Put an extension on your index page. HTM, HTML, or PHP will do, along with some others. And yeah, that means I can still see your directory.

A good thing to do before advertising your site or releasing a link is make sure it works...and that it's finished. Unless it's a work in progress, but still, the index page should be working, otherwise I can see your directories and you might be prone to a hacker attack. Oh yeah, your blog's down too.

Just some suggestions, don't scream at me or anything... IMAGE(tongue00.gif)

EDIT: Extension was put on, good job!

It could be a problem with your browser not handling FTP protocols correctly. Unfortunately, I see that there are no HTTP downloads for Nethergate so I recommend you use a browser like Internet Explorer 6.0+ to get the file. If you are using it and still get the message, you might have some kind of filtered internet or firewall, or that's what I'm assuming...

The website is up, though it looks very simplistic and ugly right now. Believe me, I will improve the look of that site, but for now here it is:

http://www.swarchive.tk

All files are currently in .rar format and are listed by forum page. Some of the links have a * by them. Those are currently unavailable either because I haven't received them yet, or I have not uploaded them to my webserver.

Planned Updates:
Putting up .sit formats for macs.
Getting some better looking webpages and putting in some credits.
Having an online archive, meaning that files will be uncompressed and viewable by browser without downloading the whole forum page first.
And possibly a search feature, but I'm not absolutely certain on this.

Those of you who haven't sent their files to me yet, please do so a.s.a.p.

Chance News:
Most of you have noticed that Chance has been down for a few days. Just recently I found out that it is not my webserver's fault directly, though it is their reseller webhost's problem. Basically meaning that they are currently renting webspace until they get their own server. Unfortunately, their reseller server has gone down and they cannot contact their admin (in another words, the support is butt-lousy/lazy). So for now, I shall have to open up my InvFree Board until my other one comes back online.

quote:

Hi,

I first want to apologize for disrupment in service. I am aware of the
problems that have been occuring with server (which has no cpanel,
domain capabilities or my-sql databases). Unfortunately I am not onsite
with the servers. Because we are a small starting up hosting company we
are using a reseller package that is provided by buyers-heaven.com. We
have been consistently trying to contact them with no reply for the
past week. I can assure you that we are just as frusturated as you are as
we cannot access our admin control panel to even troubleshoot issues
with any member account. We will begin looking for a new server.
However, we fully understand your frustration and will not be charging any of
our customers until these problems are corrected and new stable and
reliable server has been located. Furthermore, we will understand and
cooperate with requests for money back. Once again, I apologize and will
continue to keep you informed.

Sidenote: This is my 4th topic I have made on this board. I keep count, you know IMAGE(wink0000.gif)

A little advice to those competing:

Do not do what I did for member number 4000 unless you want a lot of people very angry with you.

That said, good luck to those competing.

Yes, but some are actually around 1-2megs, per page. I then later want to extract all of them individually on my webhost and that should take around 300 to possibly 400mb of space. For now, I'm just working on getting the downloads page working...

An update:

I have received all of Thuryl's files and am currently downloading Stughalf's. Here are the page numbers I have:

1 (Bumped Topics)
6-11
14
18-19
21-30
34-37

I do have 30-33 in a .sit format but my mac emulator will not let me unstuff it, for some odd reason. Kel, if you can, resend 30-33 without compressing it first.

So I still need 12-13, 15-17, 20, 31-33 and possibly a last part of 30.

And I am still working on the archive site.

Thanks,
-RC

Oh, and STD, if you still need a way to transfer your files if email won't work, contact me via PM or email and I can set up an FTP account for you.

STD, do you know how to use FTP and how to transfer files using it? If so, I can give you some space to store it on.

Otherwise, break the files into parts by page number and send them one at a time.

We now have less than 4hrs. before the topics are sniped to death. I still need files from FBM, Thuryl, Sauron, Stughalf, Alec, STD, and DP. Either put them up on a website so I can download them and put them on my webhost or email me:

lenochkac@icehouse.net

We are on a tight schedule, please do this a.s.a.p. before the topics die.

EDIT: If by email, make sure the attachment is no more than 3megs per email, or it'll probably get bounced back.

I use Winrar, stug, but there's not really a way to get it for macs...um...I can try booting up my mac emulator and getting the files by using Stuff-it, it has worked for BoA...

Or you can send me the files by just putting them in one folder, it'll take a while to mail and receive, though...

EDIT: if possible, try to cram it into one meg files and send it that way, one meg at a time.

Or send it to me by IM, it might work that way.

Alright, then, I'll get started on it right now.

I currently have these pages:
14 done by ef
18 done by RC
21 done by ef
22-25 done by RC

Edit: I have not gotten the email yet, but I think that's normal. It usually takes about 3min for my ISP to scan it.

Avernum Online issues repeated:

1. Servers are not powerful enough.
2. More hackers.
3. Servers are not powerful enough.
4. Mass havoc.
5. Servers cannot handle 37 pages of topics; they are not powerful enough.
6. $$$ issue
7. The servers will constantly shut down...I'll give you three gueses as to why.

I'm done, anyways, welcome to SpiderWeb and if needing to, use the search button. ;)

I'm seeing as the more I'm getting involved in this, the closer my title is to becoming "Veteran" even though I had made my 1000th post a while ago...

Anyways, I'm going to try to make a webpage with all the links for the archive. If it's okay with you, ef, I'd like to transfer those files and host them on my server, to kind of hold things in one place. I'll get a domain name for it as well. (free one, that is...)

I'll put it up for you. Send it to me via email:

Oh, and please compress it before sending either in .zip, .rar, or anything that makes the file size smaller.
