Hooray, I've finally shoved out a scenario. Get it here: http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~eet23/scenarios/Babysitting.zip (200K) It's intended for level 1 parties (sorry, munchkins) and is extremely short. Graphics files for Windows are provided but may not work properly. I cannot download it. Unknown zip header. Um ... I have a real Mac, not an emulator. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? Posts: 1420 | Registered: Wednesday, October 2 2002 07:00 |

Weird. I have a real Mac too, and it works for me. What operating system are you running? You could try redownloading it, it might have got corrupted. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Maybe it's an OS 9 problem - I know it works fine for me in OS X. Posts: 2862 | Registered: Tuesday, October 2 2001 07:00 |

I don't see why this should work, but I don't see why it wouldn't have worked before, so who knows? Try this, then delete the .foo before unarchiving. http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~eet23/scenarios/Babysitting.zip.foo -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

wow, good trick, I got the file! I even could enter the scen - and got another error message, but I'll check that out later ... have to go now. edit: It had to do with compatibility maybe, I got two folders, one for OSX, one for 9 [ Friday, April 30, 2004 09:21: Message edited by: spy.there ] -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? pretty good scenario. short and easy as advertised. did it with a level 1 party and it was not very difficult. "I think this is a good time to discuss post-modernism" - good one. bug: after the bandits kidnap your sister, you can no longer trade with the townspeople. -------------------- Pathological Jerk Jerking at Spiderweb since 1999 Posts: 143 | Registered: Sunday, April 18 2004 07:00 |

After the kidnapping, I could trade once with the weapons dealer, but never with Megan. The problem seems to lie in Megan's dialogue nodes: "t2valday2dlg Error: State not properly ended in line 1" appears after you speak to her. Okay, got the bug. If you go http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~eet23/scenarios/t2valday2dlg.txt and drop that in, replacing it, it should fix things (might take a new game though). It's also fixed in the main version. BTW, the error message that BoA came up with was completely unhelpful. The error was in line 119, not line 1. There is real room for improvement there. (Jeff, are you listening?) I stuck and don't find my sister. Should she be in the bandit's lair? I found - except of quickfire - one room with 3 slimes, one empty room, one room, where I can pick up lord Ashton. After escorting the ungrateful lord back to the city - I find him again in his cell ... weird  -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? Another bug (alas, I did not have the creativity to test this in the beta!), clearly only accessible to someone actively trying to find it, but nevertheless... If you smash the alarm before the brigands get to it, then they will rotate around the alarm and do nothing- even the archers. You might want to fiddle a bit with your monster AI scripts. (Interestingly enough, when the second alarm was activated, the brigands hoarding around the first became active again.) EDIT: And for reference, the lord's name is "Ashford". Ashton is the city in RoR. :P [ Friday, April 30, 2004 19:05: Message edited by: Tentacle Monster ] -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I downloaded the scen again (and it worked - without the foo-trick). When I open the cell, where the sister should be, I get the following message: "Error! Failed to load this graphic: sheet 502, icon 0. The editor might have run out of memory but, more likely, the graphic it was trying to find wasn't there." I got this message by starting the game too. Race? The sister is always invisible, no race at all. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? Did you remember to unstuff the graphics file and put it in the folder? (It's compressed separately to stop it getting mangled) -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Ok, that's the point: I cannot unstuff the "babysitting.cmg.sit" - it just doesn't react with Stuffit Expander 6.0.1. And I found another file called "babysitting.bas" inside the folder, that is not readable like all the other scripts. But downloading is working perfect now (I made several downloads to unstuff that cmg.sit ... ) -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? The latest Stuffit is at least 7.0.1. Maybe it has got something to do with that. I got the meg unstuffed in OS 9. Posts: 259 | Registered: Saturday, June 1 2002 07:00 |

Btw, I've always been told that you shouldn't compress files that have already been compressed because there is the very probable liklihood that the double-compressed will become garbled. EDIT: originally said "should". oops. [ Saturday, May 01, 2004 17:57: Message edited by: Daravon ] -------------------- -Daravon Posts: 104 | Registered: Friday, March 8 2002 08:00 |

Milu, you were right, my expander was too old. And strange, I had such problems the first time. Anyway, I got the baby now - was a delivery with forceps. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? quote:I assume you meant "shouldn't"? Anyway, that's impossible with non-lossy compression methods, which all data compression methods are. Compressing an already-compressed file will rarely improve the compression ratio much, but in this case we're not doing it for that reason, we're doing it to preserve the information contained in the resource fork. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! The problem occurs because older versions of Stuffit assume a file inside a .zip archive has no resource fork. So you have to put the graphics in something other than a .zip file: .sit works. Unfortunately, Jeff only accepts scenario submissions in .zip form, so you have to put the .sit file inside a .zip file. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! We should start a tar-ball campaign to get it so everything's in .tgz format. It's fast, it's tame; it's got a pretty sick name - tarball! TAAAARBALL! I'm running Stuffit Deluxe 8.0.2 so I guess it's probably the current version. Works fine with it. Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |
