Guys, After talking to Kelandon, I decided that I didn't really want my scenario to be another one which never got made, so I decided to pull it together and just finish the damned thing off, so I've fixed TONS of bugs, etc, added a new ending, made it "You can't put Rentar-Ihnro in it" user-friendly, and lots more. So now, after hours of work, I've nearly finished my latest testing version. It should have fixed most of the bugs in the game, and any more can easily be fixed also. So I wanted to know if anyone is interested in being a tester. If you are, post on this topic and either send me an email, or put your email address in your post, so I can send it to you when it's ready (within the week definitely). Thanks for all of your help! AND PLEASE DON'T FORGET. EVEN THOUGH IT HAS UNDERGONE SERIOUS UPGRADING, IT IS STILL MY FIRST SCENARIO! - Archmagi Micael P.S. And Khoth - please do send that email. While I'm alpha testing it now, and eradicating any bugs I meet, there will probably be a few I don't find, and that you've got written down. THANKS! Y'know, what the hell. I'll seriously test it this time, too. imbanfsf@yahoo.com EDIT: My main complaint about the scenario, at least from Testing Version 8, is that there are a lot of items that completely wreck the balance curves, or have stats that make no sense. For instance, the Hidden City Short Sword is two-handed, when all other shortswords in Blades of Avernum are one-handed. Some of your other items have nonsensical-seeming abilities, weights, and gold values, as well. Also, there are several weapons in your scenario which are way off of the proper curve, at least as shown by my Item Guide. For example, the Baltimore Imperial, from Emerald Mountain, is the strongest one-handed melee weapon as measured by my scale (damage dealt with 25 levels of weapon skill) unless Undead Valley is taken into account. In Undead Valley, there exist weapons like "Vahnatai Knife" which deal massively more damage than the strongest other weapons around. The Vahnatai Knife deals an average of 208 damage per hit by my scale, while the aforementioned Baltimore Imperial only deals 120. In fact, the Vahnatai Knife deals more damage than Maximilian, the most powerful weapon in Blades of Avernum outside of Undead Valley, which averages 203.5 damage per hit on my scale. In short, it would be appreciated if you would tone down the damage dealt by some of the weapons in your scenario. Weapons that do a base damage of 1-15 per level of weapon skill break the game - heck, Maximilian, which does only 1-10 per level of weapon skill, is often accused of breaking the game. Okay. I'm alpha testing right now for all of the little bugs (it is playable, I tested that earlier). I'm as far as the First Tower, so you know that I'm about a third way through it. Since I've only been testing in this "toothcomb" method for a couple of hours, I should be finished very quickly. I'll email you the file when I'm ready. Do you prefer it in ZIP,RAR or EXE format? Any format except .exe will do. Self-extracting archives can be really annoying. Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

terrorsmartyr@wi.rr.com Be prepared for the worst. I will critique your scenario ruthlessly, and offer as many valid points as I can manage. (I will also run your scenario through a spell-checker.) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Hi, all, I am not going to do a round of testing, but I will give you a few pointers that may help out with Micael's scenario. 1) He needs to learn how to make some original monsters. All of the monsters are upgrades of previous monsters. 2) He needs to learn how to give items special abilities. Part of the problem with the superpowerful items, is they have super damage, but give no special bonuses. You could reduce the damage of the items considerably and add a few special abilities. Also he needs to give the thrown missiles special abilities. Skeletons throwing iron javelins just doesn't work against 50th level characters--- acid javelins and pilum would. I had asked earlier about giving the vahnati flaming razor disks, poison razor disks, and diamond edged razor disks. The vahnati thrown missiles aren't very effective in this scenario. I asked Micael about this. Also try to put in a few items that are non-damaging that would be useful. Earlier I had asked about Swamp boots 1-3+5 protection +10% resistance to illness +2 Pathfinder. 3) I liked the undead gauntlet-- using the idea of crossfire ruby skeletons with icy skeletons with advancing monsters. This could be greatly improved. What would make it really challenging is to put some spawning platforms in it. 4) I liked the bridge fight, but it is repetitive, there needs to be a greater variety of creatures on the bridge. 5) The hidden city gives away way too much stuff. I had asked earlier if he could do a series of 3-4 simple puzzles, tests, or riddles to get some of the stuff. Simple straightforward stuff no mirrors. These are a few thoughts. I will play the final version when it is released. Yeah me too, zip file please. One quick piece of advice after playing through about 3/4 of the current 8.0 version: double-check & fix your placement of text at beginning points of combat. I wouldn't get the text bubble saying "Your way is blocked by skeletons and they want to attack you blah blah" or whatever until I had already gone into combat mode (since they attack you the moment you take your first step into a room) and had wiped out 1/2 of the undead group. joannacw@berkeley.edu (I'm good for testing now, but if you want to get through some bugs first and have a run through, I'll be a beta tester). I just got a list of bugs from one of my old testers, and I've corrected about half of them so far. NO, I will not put spawners etc in it, but I suppose I could tone down the power of the weapons, or make them diasappear after the game (like the Bladesmaster Sword). Which would be better do you think? And As mentioned above, I'm not very good at editing monsters, in fact I'm AWFUL, so don't expect any "Original Original" monsters. - Archmagi Micael -------------------- "You dare Trifle with Avernum?" ~ Erika the Archmage -------------------- My Scenarios: Undead Valley : A small Undead problem, what could possibly go wrong? -------------------- Richard Black - PROOF of his existance (the Infernal one's website). -------------------- MY FORUM! I'd prefer it if you toned down the weapons. My items guide is pretty good for judging where your stuff fits in. Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Just a recommendation- if you have a powerful weapon, make it two-handed. Then, make a really good shield somewhere else in the scenario. That way, the party will have to choose which item its primary fighter will weild! -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

quote:I put Guardians in it so people like me, who have mostly spellcasters, can see the benefit in having a swordsman/pikesman. The Guardians will stay. And I won't add any more spawners in it (as any of you already know the Devas in testing version 8.0 spawn, as they do in version 9.0 But since you don't have to fight them whatsoever... I've just fixed a whole bundle of bugs, and am about half-way through the scenario. I should have the weekend free (because of the SATs), so I will have probably run through it by Saturday, or Sunday latest. - Archmagi Micael P.S.
