I'm working on the main key words that describe a graphic. So far I have:

PC
NPC
Monster
Giant Monster
Terrain
Animated Terrain
Item

Can you think of any other most-common words used to describe a BoA graphic? Thanks!

Jeff said there may be talking graphics, and you it might be helpful to distinguish between monsters that always look the same (like goblins) vs. monsters that look different in combat mode (like soldiers).

—Alorael, who otherwise thinks the list is well divided, unless someone actually does make new PC "paper-doll" pictures for the side place where you can see your character's equipment and inventory.

Well if someone does decide to make new inventory screens, I hope they are a professional graphics designer. One can only imagine the chaos that could insue... or rather, the terrible stuff people will be making.

Actually... I guess crappy stuff could fit in any topic, so nevermind

Edit: Last bit there!

I have actually made a few inventory screens for my PCs. Most of them are copy/pasted from other sources, but I do have one original which looks like $#!%.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Did I miss a type of graphic at

?

My last conversation with Jeff (about a month ago) was there would be NO talking graphics. :(

Item Graphics - They seem to be 40X40 for each item. Can someone confirm this?

The talking skull isn't mine, or rather, I wasn't the one who pasted it into boxes. I can't remember whose it is.
I'll also send you other graphics when I motivate myself to, or you can get them yourself (as you presumably did for the ones up there) at either my site (its down as my homepage) or drakey's site.
Would you prefer I send them or not?

EDIT: and the actual engine there is pretty good. Would it be possible for you to put a link/button to download stright to disk (rather than having to get a contextual menu). That's just me being picky though.

I'll send you the item graphics from my site if you like, if of course, thats ok with Sodium Cyanide and Motekye, otherwise I will simply send you mine, I will have to edit them. So which would you prefer, the inventory view of the items or the laying on the ground/isometric view of them? (most of my items are simply BoE items given a isometric view).

http://www.freewebs.com/mortimer/itemsgraphics.htm

Thats my site if you want to know what items are up there and which ones you want.

Brett, I'm working on the text files, but I've been really busy lately. Don't worry - it's getting done, albeit slowly.

Here is the ideal situation for me:

Create a thumbnail graphic for each individual graphic, in GIF or JPG form.

Name the original graphic in all lowercase.
Name the thumbnail graphic the same as the full one, adding a th on the end of the name, just before the file name extension.

Example:

myfile.gif
myfileth.gif

If you have a giant graphic, please combine both sheets into one file, as I did with the dragon example already on the site.

If you want to provide an animation of the graphic (like an NPC attacking), it must be an animated GIF. Add an a on the end of the name, just before the file name extension.

Example:

myfilea.gif

This will ensure success of the site. I may not have time to process graphics not ready to go.

So, for those of you who have graphics, can you try this approach, and send me the files at bxb11@psu.edu?

Files re-sent as requested.

Note: In preparing files to re-send, I noticed that JPEGs exhibit color distortion in the areas that should be white (They cease to be white.) Does anyone know why this happens? (Re-sent files were sent as GIFs, which do not seem to exhibit this effect.)

...

It's fine with me. The more places they go up, the better!

PS: AIRPLANE / Salamander made the skull into a character graphic.

Jpegs compress files by cutting corners and approximating colours. If a long line is all roughly one colour, they just put in code or whatever for - long line this long this colour.
I would suggest gifs. If you're worried about losing colours due to the 256 thing, you should be able to customise the pallete with some kinda colour optimising thing (you can do this in graphic converter methinks)
Why did I just say 'methinks'?

EDIT: Can we use that online submission form?

Cool site. It'll be so much better when it's got more graphics on it. By the way, maybe I'm just stupid, but why start with graphics now, when they haven't even set a date for BoA's release yet (or have they??).

They have - Winter 03/04.

Besides, it's always good to get a head start. There are already about 100 BoA graphics, and it's better to get them categorized now than later.

Is there a list of all the BoA Graphics Sites somewhere. If not, someone should make one.
(Isn't Winter a year away? nooooo. cannot... wait... that... long... *dies in despair, then thinks that he'd probably rather play Lemmings till then...*)

Lemmings is a good game - especially on that super-hard last difficulty level.

http://www.sitemouse.com/users/drakefyre/graphics.html#boa

That's my site, which probably has the most BoA graphics. However, it doesn't have any item graphics.

OK - I have updated the site with nearly all the graphics I've received (over 90). All in GIF format - this does seem to be the best choice, although I'll take jpg if that's how they come.

I now know enough to intelligently redesign the submission page, so that's next.

Uh, Brett? You have three colored GIFTS listed as Giant Monsters. Also, my brown monster thingy doesn't really seem like a Wall Creature. It could be an Earth Elemental, I suppose, but I think I need to make a couple adjustments to the death animation.
