I've been having a heck of a time doing much of anything on here recently. Every time I do something even as simple as try to read a topic, I, 8 times out of 10, end up either running up against a 500 Internal Server Error or a blank page. I noticed that there was an unusual number of ISEs yesterday as well. Are we due for another purge? Is UBB just giving out? Or am I the only one experiencing this? [ Thursday, March 13, 2008 10:31: Message edited by: Nioca ] -------------------- Hz'ii'zt a'iiencf coxnen a'bn'z'p pahuen yzpa'zuhb be'tt'phukh'kn az'ii'ova mxn't bhcizvi'fl? I get the same thing. I hope UBB just dies soon enough. Then we move somewere more stable. (Old advocate of moving talking here) -------------------- Death, chaos, destruction, my work here is just begining... Posts: 942 | Registered: Sunday, October 8 2006 07:00 |

Yeah, I'm getting errors, too. I remember back in the day, when errors were unheard of, and ISE's didn't even exist. My idea to fix it? Delete all accounts over about number 7500. -------------------- Nikki's Nook - will you remember his name? Posts: 2864 | Registered: Monday, September 8 2003 07:00 |

The posts don't go away. At least they seriously shouldn't. Plus well over half our members are bots and only about 5-10% of us still post. Maybe 100 or so active members out of well over ten thousand. Total purge, delete and archive everything and force everyone to create new accounts. -------------------- Death, chaos, destruction, my work here is just begining... Spiderweb Software should declare bankruptcy and Jeff Vogel should fake his own death and move to Buenos Aires under an assumed identity. All servers should be taken down, erased, and then subjected to dissolution by alkahest. Why can't they simply place one of those "type in the numbers in the picture" security measures in the registration page? As for me, I haven't noticed any unusual amount of server errors recently. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." Checked my account number so I'm fine with the 7500 cutoff. Maybe 8000 as an even number. Or we could delete all members that don't make useful posts at a certain level. It'll force some members not to constantly spam. The troubles seem to have no pattern since they occur at times when there is little activity. I think it would make sense to delete all accounts with zero postcount, because they're more likely than not bots. -------------------- Decca Records - "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." Posts: 1384 | Registered: Tuesday, February 6 2007 08:00 |

Half our members are not bots. I know there have been more lately, but I'm sure there are still loads of users who register and don't post (or don't post for several years). The links from the sw web pages attract a lot of lurking game players. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central "Slartucker is going to have a cow when he hears about this," Synergy said. Why do you people make fun about such serious matters? It feels so...so freaking amature! And I know I've probably spelled that wrong, so now you will all tactfully avoid my point. Gaah! -------------------- Alternate account. Posts: 21 | Registered: Monday, January 21 2008 08:00 |

quote:Yeah. It's much better to ask a simple trivia question, like "What is Hillary Clinton's first name?" (No, really. I'm aware of a blog that uses precisely that question to keep bots out, and it seems to work perfectly.) Of course, that's not going to happen either, because SW doesn't have the resources to modify UBB.
