They're silly!

And that...is a spiderweb? I've never seen one that big before!

Looks more like a flithy gypsy moth infestation.

But if we imported giant spiders, it would take care of the moth problem, right?

That, my friends, is the result of thousands of mundane average day to day spiders working in harmony. Lead by a mutant giant spider overseer, of course.

Ick. I like spiders, but I really hate spiderwebs. I used to have to walk down a narrow path on my way to school everyday, and there always used to be loads of them. And, no matter how careful you were in trying to avoid them, there was always one that got right in your face.

Ick.

I can already imagine the people cowering in fear, rocking back and forth, eyes closed, and with their hands firmly pressed against their ears as the high-pitched giggles and Hi's of the GIFTs bear down on them relentlessly. Then there would be the high-pitched annoying person who never stops talking, and he would be willingly striking up conversations with all the spiders and trying to give handshakes to pedipalps.

Dude, I know that person. She's a terror... the GIFTSs would get annoyed and eat her.

But yeah... that's impressive, regardless of what species it is.

Dang, communal spiders really ought to be included in some scenario. Maybe I'll try that if I ever get around to working on one.

/Think lots of weak little spiders with 12 AP, web touch, and bite to poison... Nothing a few Firestorms couldn't handle, but potentially deadly to low-level parties.

Potentially a game-breaker, you know. Too many hits with webbing = party never gets to move again.

That's what I've heard, but from what I've seen (in the Windows version anyway) it cuts out at 1 AP, 2 while hasted. Still very nasty, especially when mixed with slowing and cursing attacks, but it doesn't end your game. Exile 2 did have that problem, but BoE doesn't seem to.

At any rate, the web touch (as opposed to throwing) would mean that it was top priority to slay the buggers before they got near you. I think this is a scenario in which the generally worthless Flame Arrows spell might be handy.

(Actualyl, come to think of it, Conflagration might make it too easy to handle without some sort of improved monster AI.)

Are you sure you're not wearing a Ring of Speed or something? Webbing can only cause you to lose as many as 4 AP, so if you have more base AP than that due to equipment, it won't take you down to zero.

Just don't go into combat mode!Of course that in itself is a large handicap.

Crazy spiderweb though.

Aha... You're right, I had speed items when I observed this. My mistake.

(Hmm, another "bug" to fix in OBoE I guess.)

Puts the wall of webbing into perspective, doesn't it?

The Silent Assassin considered using a race of spiders as a nemesis in a story he was writing; but he eventually dismissed them, as he believes them to be overused.
I'm not sure that the midget fish people he proposed would take their place do much better.

I don't know, there's definitely something cool about midget fish people. I actually had an idea for a weird scenario based around fish people at one point, though I never got around to it and have long forgotten most of the details.

(There are a bunch of scenario ideas I came up with, and then just gave up on because BoE nodework is so damn tough to use. Something really needs to be done about that, some way to output a chart or diagram showing which node goes to which... Without a way of seeing what triggers what it's like programming blind.)
