I have just finished uploading, with Aran's help, approximately 26 hit Worf the Cat comics to the link in my sig.

My goal is to make people laugh until they are either wheezing on the floor or passed out from lack of breath.

I love Worf, but these are taking forever to load. Maybe you could shrink them a bit?

Agreed. i really like your comics, but the images is in most definitely unnecessary. I got broadband so I wouldn't have to wait for things to load. :P

Besides the loading issue, there is a distinct lack of crossbow comics (unless your last four comics all feature it). Please rectify this immediately. Oh, and labeled vacuum hose = not funny.

tSara: ITYS ("I Told You So").

Lessee... I might be able to do some magic.

With ImageMagick, namely.

Mh. Auto-resized copies of all the pages are here: http://worfthecat.ermarian.net/converted .

When I have more time, I'll set up the shellscript in such a way that it can just be called through a form - then you can generate a resized copy as soon as you upload the picture. :)

No fancy form, but here: http://worfthecat.ermarian.net/resize.php

From now on, after you've uploaded more files, just visit this page in the browser and it will scale all the new images. :)

I could use captions for more comics, especially crossbow comics. Suggestions and so on are most welcome. And thanks for shrinking down those files for me, Aran. Admittedly, I'm helpless in some ways.

I'm at 75 comics finished, and I'm at a dead end until I can get a better camera. And more lines for Worf.

And dogs scare me. They bite. I have to beat off the dogs on my paper route with my paper carrier's bag.

Considering how well-received your comics were, you might want to turn them into a real webcomic:
Use a few lines of basic HTML to make navigation buttons and a table of contents.
Perhaps add a border and some other formatting.
And start putting up the new pictures a couple times a week, after posting initial set of about half a dozen.

If you do it that way, you'll keep constant interest and each panel will get more attention. If you just throw up everything at once, people will look at it and forget it by next week. (For example, if Diki's story had been finished and posted completely, it would be half-forgotten by now. Instead, it's been a continuous topic of conversation for almost a year.)

Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword,
For it too has the power to kill.
However well placed word, unlike a well placed sword,
Can also have the power to heal.

Again, why are the images so freakin' huge? You could easily shrink each one of those to 25% of their size without losing any of their entertaining effect.

Another idea is to see if you can convert those into .PNG graphics, and then compress them. It'll drop a picture's size (in terms of Bytes) by up to %66, thus drastically decreasing the loading time.

EDIT: '%66 percent' seemed a bit redundant.

Most webcomics use CMS systems (I know, so what? ...) for their websites to make this more easy. Depending on expertise, some of them code their own (see Userfriendly) and some outsource all the maintenance.

I'm sure Drupal or Joomla could be set up for this, I've seen Moodle and Xoops used for it, and Plone is probably not bad either. But I only know Drupal, personally. :P A week or two ago, I said I was trying out something like this (Drupal + integrated Gallery2), but it turned out to be more tricky than I thought, and now I have exams. So it'll take a while.

No, after that comes nails on a chalkboard, then OSU fans, then that spot on your back that you cannot reach no matter how hard you try, and then cats.

1. Aran took care of the size. A good thing, too, because I'm not willing to wait 30 seconds a piece for that many comics.

2. What is this thing against cats? Everyone knows they are the superior race. Dogs are too loyal and dumb, they fail to compare.

Cat + crossbow = funny. Yeah, I've said it before, but it's still true.

You know, it's kinda funny that these are better than some of the ones I've been seeing in the Post-Dispatch lately... every attempt at replacing Foxtrot's daily spot has been a horrible failure.

You know, I just don't see the humour in these. I mean sure, I see the jokes, but they're not particularly funny. :\ I'm a tough crowd - very, very few comics have ever amused me and I read a lot of them.

Not that these are bad, of course.

Some people like' em, some don't. I can live with that.

Aran sent me a link to a program that will shrink those monsters in the future, so that particular problem will no longer be an issue.

And I got a new camera! And ideas! Got 2 more crossbow comics coming soon.

And I have my personal anti-favorite in the list I mentioned, too - Joomla. I just spouted names of popular CMS. (Although even then I didn't stoop to the trash that is Mambo...)

I can't say anything about Moodle and Plone, personally, having never seen them in action. Nanowrimo does fairly well with Xoops, but I haven't seen the admin panel. Typo3 is powerful, but you're going to spend half a year learning how to use it.

Hence, Drupal :P

The way I see it, if the joke is only understood by a fraction of the people that read it... ahem, Thuryl... then it's not worth it. I'll take the frontal assault approach over that nonsense any day.
