Despite the fact that this has probably been done, I want to know what to try next (I've exhausted the Geneforge series). [EDIT] I'm only including the Avernum and Geneforge titles. The other games seem arcane by computer standards. [ Monday, April 03, 2006 22:38: Message edited by: Nick Ringer ] Poll Information This poll contains 1 question(s). 41 user(s) have voted. If you already played the G series, why include it in the poll? Certainly not for completeness, given that you refuse to include Exile and (even more strangely) Blades. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

There is one grain of truth there, though. The other games are indeed "arcane". Arcane, of course, in the dictionary sense, being magical/mysterious. Sadly also in the sense of "understood and truly appreciated only by very few". Or did you mean archaic? I think BoE is Spiderweb's best game my miles. So do many other people. If you try it, you'd be surprised. Need proof? Click here. There's more of these on pages 3-5, I think. There's also this. Of the choices offered, A2 is the best. I strongly recommend looking into Nethergate as well. Blades of Exile is great if you can accept the engine, and Blades of Avernum is very good if you can accept the engine and the smaller scenario output. —Alorael, who still wants a Carbonized Nethergate. It has been promised, but before Apple's next big switch would be nice. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I also voted for A2 on the poll, but would recommend BoE for the volume of quality scenarios. The amount of fun gameplay you'll get from it will be greater than from any other Spidweb game. (BoA doesn't have nearly as many scenarios made.) -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. By "arcane" I meant "old." Don't they both have the same base word? Viewing the dictionary entried of each archaic and arcane , I find that I used the word incorrectly. Shame on me ... MagmaDragoon, I too voted for Geneforge 3. Alas, I must try the Avernum Series. I can't JUST get Avernum 2, you know ... and to everyone, my most sincere apologies for not including the more archaic Spiderweb titles. -------------------- One of these words is mispelled. quote:Avernum 2 is the best of the series, but 1 was also really good, and 3 isn't bad either. I would play them in order if I were you, but you don't have to. Also, Nethergate is built on the same engine as the Avernum Trilogy, and is, in my opinion, the best game that Jeff ever wrote. -------------------- "You're drinking liquor because you're thirsty? quote:In which alternate reality is Blades of Avernum older than Avernum 3? You put Geneforge on there, which was made years before BoA, and Avernum IV, which was years after BoA. Neither, to be sure, have any chance of competing with BoA. So which standard did you use? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Apparently the standard was "games whose titles begin either with the word 'Geneforge' or the word 'Avernum.'" This is not chronological and omits part of the Avernum series (BoA), but eh. A1's my recommendation, although I wouldn't vote for it as the best. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Blades of Avernum doesn't start with Avernum, obviously. It starts with Blades. —Alorael, who supposes the list is ordered in reverse alphabetical order but in the usual numerical order. G is before A and 1 is before 2. It makes sense! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You mays well start with Avernum 1 and move your way up. Based on the fact that E3 is my favorite Exile, I voted for A3, but get what you want. They're all good. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

quote: There's a reason. A2 rocks. Personally, I prefer A3, but that's only because E3 was the first one I played - thus, when I noticed the recurring themes and cliches, E/A3 still felt like the most original of the storylines. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I'm sure many people are tired of hearing it, but I think that most people who say that A2 is the best Spiderweb game have not played Nethergate.
