A random instant message from Scorpius today reminded me of the good old Golden Days of Spiderweb, back when the Ikonboard was still prominent and everyone was about 6 years younger. Looking back, I realized I was an annoying 10 year-old then who would have annoyed the crap out of me today. But there were so many memories, like the scourge of the Black Marks, and even before the Ikonboards, the huge AOL Instant Messenger chats Jeff himself used to have with fans. Ahh, jeez. The good old days. So I'm just wondering, who of you have been around to see Spideyweb mature, and what are you're favorite old memories—or you're most well-remembered—of Spiderweb and the boards? -------------------- Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck. My favorite thing that I was around for was probably the Spiderprise RP. -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. Some are short, some are dull, some are sharp, some are tall. Some have funny names and they are all different colors, but they all learn to live in the same box." "Happy is the man that has wisdom and gets discernment. I hate things like this; it reminds me how much I missed out, and how not as exciting the boards are now. My fav told memory though is when everyone starting changing their name to Imban. It sounds awsome, damn me for not coming to the boards right after buying Geneforge four years ago. Posts: 1035 | Registered: Friday, April 1 2005 08:00 |

*looks jealous to all numbers under 1000* My first memory is a horrible "favourite music"-topic (back in 2003) where everybody bragged with his bad taste. And a topic where Drakey celebrated an obscure 3000-something number (was it postcount?). :) Fortunately there are still enough old members around to make me feel noobish. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? So perhaps a special occasion stuck in mind more than the others? I remember that I came in just when the "golden days" people like to refer to were ending, or shortly after they ended. Misc was gone, Scorp was leaving, etc. The Sands of Time were the first roleplay I saw (although I'd seen Around the Place a long time before I joined, when I was lurking). But we had our share of golden days after that. Remember Baltazar? The Avernum RP? The Pied Piper? And years from now people will talk about the grand mod elections. ^_^ [ Sunday, November 13, 2005 07:36: Message edited by: NaNoWriMo ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I was barely in time for one of those prestigious <3000 numbers. :) And... Heavens. We're at 6462 now?! Hadn't we just barely been through the mid 5000s? Man, I feel ancient. :( -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I miss the conspiracies and power jockeying. The first mod elections, which were a farce and which, if I were a better person, I would have handled differently. The second, which were more about conspiring than voting. Back even farther, the BEEP and the lackluster attempts to revive it. The great effort to get Morgan to 1000 posts without double posting. —Alorael, who has become an old fogey without noticing. He should start a new account to keep himself virtually young and vital. I don't remember much from when I joined because I was mostly hanging out in the SubTerra forum. But I do remember one topic, 'this is the title of the story, which appears a few times in the story itself' or something like that. And Billy strangling his mother. Who was the starter of that thread, anyway? And who was this 'emo boy' that sparked the swearing, and the locking of the topic? Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

My guess is December 15th -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. Some are short, some are dull, some are sharp, some are tall. :D Aww, I remember this story (wasn't Alec posting it?) Nobody liked it. I liked it better though than another story about a twisted little boy killing his mother. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? It's never so much that the good ol' days were consistently good, as just that they contained a few good times, and these are all anyone remembers, because they alone are worth remembering. It is probably worth mentioning this rather bland point, because a whole era of dense goodness would be impossible to reproduce, but a few good times can quite easily come again. -------------------- We're not doing cool. Who doesn't LOVE Survivor and all of its ensuing scandals. And you know, you can thank me for the first mod elections. If I had never gotten the boot, there wouldn't have been an available spot on Misc. Posts: 455 | Registered: Tuesday, May 17 2005 07:00 |

Around the Universe and the coincident death of Misc (yeah, someone had to say it. Be original, people.) It was probably quite a horrible RP, now that I think back on it, but it was fun while it lasted, and we're probably lucky it was ended so conclusively. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon Polaris = joy.
