Great, another topic by him. And another donkey title to go with it. Well, this isn't as bad (hopefully) as the rest, and may be appropriate even.

I was wondering what folks did to celebrate Halloween? I realize something was asked about this a month ago, but now the witching hour is upon us. So, do you trick? Treat? Attend a costume party? Complain vigorously about the pagans that actually take this stuff seriously?

Edit - Posting to say you don't celebrate Halloween can be done more simply by not pressing the Reply button. Had I wanted to learn who does/n't celebrate, I would have created a stupid poll.

I am Australian and thus I don't celebrate Halloween. It is celebrated in some parts of my fair country, however.

Apparently the capitals get into it in a big way.

I am going to invoke Cthulhu at midnight.

Kidding. :P

Lovecraft doesn't explicitly state it has to be midnight in R'lyeh. In fact, judging from the fact that most of the occult business is done in the area around Boston, it would be impractical to time it after a place conveniently on the other side of the planet.

I mean, can you imagine prancing around in gothy costumes chanting unpronouncible phrases around noon? It loses all the atmosphere. :P

Edit: I *am*, however, going to start typing away at a 50k novel at midnight.

I celebrate halloween somewhat, but I never go trick-or-treating. I prefer to just go to the store and spend my costume money on candy. That way I get more candy, and only the candy I like. Plus I don't have to go walking around in some unscary costume.

As always, I claim that I will open the door shirtless with an open can of beer in one hand and a shotgun in the other. Unfortunately, I have no shotgun, no cans of beer, and generally very few trick or treaters in my neighborhood.

Do you not know anybody near where you live that would let you borrow a shotgun?

If I had the money, and was at home, I could probably get a shotgun within 2 hours. But then again, If I had the proper licensces, I know where I could get an M-16 easily.

You could always put on a really convincing scarecrow costume, and motionlessly (is that a word?) sit in a chair near your front door. Then when a trick-or-treater shows up, jump up and scream really loudly.

I'm going trick-or-treating as either a jedi(again) or a homicidal maniac(if I can convince my mom to let me). And before anyone asks, homicidal maniacs look just like everyone else. I also came up with an idea for a short story about the blood people donate really going to vampires to keep the vampire population from expanding.

I do whatever's going on. Last year it was a murder mystery party; this year I'm wearing some kind of costume all day, volunteering at the local children's museum, and then maybe trick or treating for the hell of it. I'll be pretty disappointed if I don't get any Cow Tails, though. I really don't get into Halloween. It's a good excuse to dress up, sure, but for me, it doesn't take much.

I went as a homicidal maniac once. The older people where smart enough to ask me about my costume, but the parents of other children just gave me mean looks without even asking.

I went to a halloween party once as a Christian Rocker. My entire costume was a shirt that had a cross and a motorcycle on it and said "Driven by the Spirit," and some blue jeans.

Just a glow-in-the-dark skull mask and a black cape with spikes at the bottom. Pretty dull, but pretty scary

I spooked my 16-year-old sister with it yesterday, and it was totally worth it! She went into tears and started cursing at me, and said I was screwed up... So hillarious!

And to Spring: We all know you're Australian by now.

To me, Haloween is a day for either sugar or stoning (not egging, eggs cost money) houses in a costume like what Hoargh wears on a day to day basis (spikes and gut guard included). Before anyone asks any questions, if the word "Immortal" doesn't send shivers up your spine, you do not deserve to know who Hoargh is.

There's Guy Fawke's Day on the 5th of November, also called Bonfire Night. As it's pretty close to Halloween, people with children tend to include candy and costumes and propably a candle pumpkin with their Bonfire Night.

I'll just have a bonfire in the garden. Administration in my office have asked if they can come along and dispose of some pre-90's archiving, as they need the space, so I expect a few people to show up with burning material. There'll be fireworks going up everywhere, climbing on the roof to watch the show is always a good idea.

:) Good luck! In face of the special date of wandering un-deads it might be wise to kindle a silver candle and burn some storax, laurel and wormwood before you start fighting ... er, uh ... writing.

Because a rifle doesn't have that mean look to it that a shotgun does. Something about a shotgun just says "Stay back or you won't live to regret it."

Nothing like a shotgun to really spread the lead.

Now, concerning Halloween, why should the kiddies have all the fun playing dress up? I have plans to fulfill a certain holiday wish which involves a certain little someone in a certain little French maid outfit and mostly involves treats, but doesn't rule out a few tricks. There's only one little hitch in my plans. I still need to find that certain little someone to play Trick or Treat with all year round.

I can see I've said too much. This post rated PG-13 by the Holiday Association of America (HAA!)

Anyways, I'm not going trick or treating since it'd be a little too humiliating for me. However, I will be going to a costum party. I still haven't decided between the nurse outfit or the witch.

Edit: ummm, yeah I'll stick with the witch. I like the outfit and there is something exciting about casting spells on people......

Any gun is scary, but a beer, no shirt, and a shotgun really say "I'm drunk, I'm a gun nut, and I have no inhibitions. Move away slowly and hope I don't notice."

—Alorael, whose favorite costume was a tattered black robe with a hood, a scythe, and a bright yellow smiley face mask. Smiley masks are remarkably hard to find, actually. Death's heads are everywhere.
