On most forums, you get something on the front page saying, "hey, you have new private messages you should read!"

on this one you apparently have to remember to check your profile by hand?

yech.

by the way: Kelandon and *i, you have new private messages. I've seen you both online since I sent 'em, and they list as 'unread' so either you're ignoring them, or you just don't know you have 'em. I'm guessing the latter.

Yes, you do have to check them yourself. However, you can change it so you recieve an email when you get messaged. Go to 'View/Update my profile'.

You should also note that the email will contain the message itself, not just the notification. That means someone can read the message in the email without checking in at the forum.

Needless to say, the message will show up as "Unread" in that case.

Yes, but I don't know if _they_ have email notification on and I guess I'll never know unless they reply or at least read the PM on the forum so I know they've _seen_ it.

I do in fact have e-mail notification on and, since the e-mails contain the entire text of the PMs, tend not to look at the PMs themselves until I'm about to reply, which I haven't had a chance to yet.

I am looking into what you sent me and will respond soon.

Replying is optional, of course. I just wanted to make sure the message wasn't lost because the board hides it :)

With email and MSN, I have no use for PMs.

For me it's out of sight out of mind so I always forget about my messages here. And even though I have it set to send me an e-mail notification if I do get one, whenever a thread like this mentions PM's I always go to check them anyway. Just in case ya know.

Yeah, and I think with a slower Internet such as mine, PMs would just be easier to send as PMs. I think it would be a bit more reliable than E-mail, also.

After a couple of experiences finding a PM that was left ignored for ages, I've disabled them. People can get in touch with me some other way.

This topic could be stickied as a PM message reminder topic... but we can't do that either.
