This is not supposed to be a political statement, a trolling, or an incitement to debate. Regardless of political stance, I believe we should not forget those who dream of peace, and who are ready to die for this dream. There are altogether too few of them.

So if you have some time at about 15:00 GMT today, perhaps stop for a moment of silent remembrance.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but from what you said i was curious as to what cause she was working towards?

She lookes like a very happy person & I am sorry for your loss.

The link is over the picture. She was a peace activist trying to stop the destruction of Palestinian homes, until she was run over by a bulldozer.

She was killed by a caterpillar in Gaza stripe when she tried to stop the Israel army to destroy Palestinian houses.
And the wish for peace is a political statement, you can't separate war and peace from politics. But yes, I know what you intend ...

edit: oops, Aran was faster

I fear that might be true. What kind of society are we becoming it supporting peace or supporting war is a matter of politics? :(

Well, some would argue that there are certain governments, organisations or ideologies that we simply shouldn't be on peaceful terms with.

Run over by a bulldozer?
WTF

I simply cannot understand why people treat others this way. Behavior like this is completely unacceptable.

Well, I was in school and completely unaware that she ever existed at 15:00 GMT. So I'll pause my music and have a moment of silence right after All Together Now stops playing. What a dumb song.

I should probably just keep my mouth shut, seeing as what I was going to say will only be taken the wrong way.

It is indeed a terrible thing.

If she hadn't fallen down, I doubt she would have been run over. It's hard to see out of a bulldozer.

I quote an eyewitness:

"I just want to quickly dispel a few myths you may have heard in the media. She did not "trip and fall" in front of the bulldozer. She sat down in front of it, well in advance, wearing one of the orange flouro jackets I got in Amsterdam. (By the way, I took the pictures you may have seen of her, standing with the megaphone in front of the bulldozer, and the ones of her friends helping her.)

He clearly saw her, and continued to drive until she was forced onto the top of the dirt he was pushing, elevating her so much that she was at eye level with the bulldozer's cab, he could see right into her eyes. He continued forward, pulling her underneath the dirt, and out of his vision. He continued forward, crushing her underneath the weight of the blade. He continued forward, until she was well underneath the bulldozer. It was then quite clear that she was nowhere but underneath him, but he proceded to back up, without lifting the blade, crushing her again.

I believe that it was the combination of these two crushings together that caused her death."

Speechless. That's terrible. Obviously, such protest always involves a certain amount of risk, but it's unbelievable that someone would actually take advantage of that risk.

Indeed, the similarity is uncanny.

Apart from the fact that the tanks stopped.

It was probably unintentional. They certaintly shouldn't have done that, but Palestinian suicide bombers have perposely killed a very large amount of people, and Israel usually has a good reason for doing what they do. For example, the Palestinian homes that were distroyed might have been harboring terrorists.

Chance someone became homeless as a result of that bulldozing: 100%.
Chance that a terrorist might have been forced to move elsewhere: some indeterminate number above 0%.
Inflicted casualties: 1.

Gee, that makes all sorts of sense.

It's that kind of unintentional. Like the one in Abu Ghraib. Where no one will claim responsibility; the ones who did it were unquestioningly following orders, the ones in command gave no such orders, etc.

If you were to track that bulldozer driver down and ask him why, he'd probably answer: "I had orders to demolish all those houses, and I didn't have orders to stop when someone stood in the way." Milgram's Theorem at work.

The further you divide the place where the decisions are made from the place where they are carried out, the more atrocious the results will be.

Contrary to popular belief in America, several times as many Palestinians have died in this conflict as Israelis since fighting resumed in 2000. While it is true that a higher percentage of Palestinian casualties are "militants," it is still an undeniable fact that more innocent people have died on the Palestinian side.

And yet for some, this proportion justifies it. What do percentages matter in the face of dead, innocent people?

Who should be punished? The criminal or the criminal's family? The Nazis were fond of collective punishment, but that doesn't mean Zionists should follow their example.
