I express my general greeting to new members of the boards. A member is a member, after all. This topic is halfway spammy, but not too much so. Observe the way that people type and generally think around here and you should be flattened into the general homogenous mold that we all are accustomed to. You'll get chewed out eventually, but ride the n00b wave. And I think Nicothodes is extremely annoying. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Some people just can't seem to grasp the concept of a balanced point of view. What is it you people have with 'sides'? From what I understood of AM's post, Riibu went a little far in her rant, and that you made yourself look less than smart by addressing her as 'AiS'. :P -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! You are really putting yourself in a bad light Riibu, you seem arrogant and judging by what you wrote it seems you think everybody close to #4000 is less worth, you are showing tiny signs of the "over the law" behavior that got Alec (or was it TGM?) banned for a while. Do you want to smoke out all the newbies and keep only the privileged oldies here? I can understand your anger about people posting 0 or 1 posts, and that they take up web space, but you are overreacting. JM seems like a nice chap, and his grammar mistakes can probably be fixed by a couple of CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM posts. Don't let yourself be scared JM, the only people who deserve the "Welcome" Riibu gave you is people constantly talking in all caps or 1337. -------------------- 33111-CRUSADER-4849 Posts: 662 | Registered: Friday, September 13 2002 07:00 |

In the past, I've never really thought much of Riibu. My general impression was of a constant low pitched whine. It wasn't so much that I disagreed as that I couldn't be bothered to read properly anything she'd written when it seemed eminently suited for skimming. What can I say? It seems I may have been wrong. I do like Jethro Tull (I am a bad, bad man) but when it comes down to it Jethro's first few posts were pretty irritating. Just because something is not in upper case, does not mean it is not badly typed and pretty incoherent. She's also right that if the member number of your first account is above 4000, you are unlikely to be an integral part of the community. There are exceptions, such as Kelandon (although his number is 4045, at the lower end of the spectrum Riibu targetted.) Generally, there's such a reservoir of feuding that you aren't going to be a pillar of the community for a fair stretch of time. That's not to say you can't be a prominent member but being as thick as two short planks and belligerently so does not make you an integral part of the community (you should know who you are, although I'm sadly not convinced.) The flame was overdone, but that is the point of a flame. Myself, I tend to feel that this aggression isn't always ideal. When almost every frequent poster had this things were more than a little chaotic. Nevertheless, given the choice I'd far rather that than blandness and a refusal to criticise. I am not a member of Polaris. You may suggest constructive criticism. Didn't see that. I wanted to stab RoR to death as much as the rest of did/should have done but I find it a little depressing that nobody seems to have the urge to pedantry. Ben, she's not calling you 'nerds.' She's just saying that quality should not be sacrificed for quantity. If we had a board 50 times as active with 98% of threads along the lines of 'OMG I IS 14 NOW PRAIZ ME' it would not be an improvement. In other words, she is insulting your intelligence rather than your social life. Where's Edwin working? I've got a railcard, a few days spare this holiday and methods of troublemaking that need fieldtesting... -------------------- Voice of Reasonable Morality Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

I don't hate you. But that's because I'm completely oblivious to what goes on around me. I thought Shotts was well before my time until Alec or Drakey or someone pointed out that I had actually been there through the whole thing. Anyway, Jethro, welcome to the community. I think I should point out that while many might not actually hate me... I hate them, therefore it makes our Spidweb-boards-relationship rather rocky. -------------------- The critics agree! *purrs* Ooh, I do love getting attention ^.^ You guys take me way too seriously. I was just freaking out at the time, and since Edwin wasn't online I couldn't whine about it to him. Yeah, bad luck for the new member, whatsisname. Just for the record, though, I do like to bite and not in a sexy kind of way. Honestly, people, you took Riibu's post word for word? I found it quite funny, and I'm not one to bash newbies. Without reason. Keep it up, Riibu, whatever "it" is. You remind me of Undine, but you seem more balanced and intelligent, and, oddly enough, you're one of my favorite members. Welcome, Jethro, and may you mature quickly enough to avoid any more rants. EDIT: RL maturity and Spidweb maturity are not the same, by the way. Don't be offended. Welcome Jethro! Hope you post nicely, and don't worry too much about your grammar, though checking your posts before you post them can be done without too much trouble. I thought what Riibu said was funny, but even if I hadn't had, since I'm not only post 4000, but post 4500, I would not have had any moral grounds to do so, anyway. If your posts are nice (whatever that means) and people find them cool, great. And if your posts turn out to be idiotic (whatever that means) and people laugh, great. Look at Ben, he's also post 4500, will probably reach the 500 mark by next week, and he simply doesn't care what people think (whatever that means) Whatever you do is whatever you will do and whatever happens will happen in whatever way it happens to happen, so why bother? In the end, what's the worst that can happen: public humiliation? someone sending you a nasty virus that completely obliterates your computer and somehow escapes it to real life killing millions of innocents in the process? Well. You can always reinstall your OS, and humanity could do with an arbritary purge once in a while. I think that as long as someone doesn't ask you to eat a raw, living platypus while you kiss some politicians dirty, smelly, hairy sub-equatorial posterior, while you listen to B's Ninth played on disharmonious Maracas by drunken mandrils, you should be all right. Oh, and I agree with Weedy, I hope you like Jethro Tull as well. They rock. Edit: Bad grammar. Yo hablo Español and learned English from a book. I recall the original discussion of the translation of Djur's name included the point that it was often followed by .se since Djur is Swedish for animal. I've only just worked out that that was actually an innocent enough comment. -------------------- Voice of Reasonable Morality Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |
