How do you pronounce Rakshasa? The [h] in option 3 means that it can be pronounced, or it can be a soft semi-silent consonant. I vote option 1, although I'm not adverse to Rahk-sha-sa, either. Which, uh, come to think of it, is more or less the same thing. =^.^=; [ Thursday, July 29, 2004 16:11: Message edited by: Whyte Shadow ] -------------------- Digital Neko - more nekojin per capita than you can beat senseless! I know that Rak-sa-ha is not the correct spelling, but perhaps someone would find it easier to say? I personally pronounce it Rak-sa-sa, Rawk-SHAW-sa, or just Tigers. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

While we're talking about pronunciations of strange Exile/Avernum words, I was wondering where people put the stress on "slithzerikai." I put it on the second syllable, personally, sounding like slith-ZER-ih-kye. I'm writing slith poems in iambic pentameter (don't ask), which is why it matters. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I always split the word into Slith-Zerikai (have you got any idea how hard it is to say thz?), and stress the last syllable. So: slith-zer-ee-KAI. -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! I've always pronounced the sliths as slith-zer-AH-kee. When you look at the spelling, it doesn't make sense, but oh well. Of course I usually call them sliths anyway, so it doesn't really matter. -------------------- The critics agree! Demonslayer is "a five star hit!" raves TIMES Weekly! Slith-er-is-KAI was the Exile pronounciation. I think the reason why most people check the "You must vote before seeing the results" option is because they either want to force you to vote to satisfy your curiosity, or because they simply don't see the little checkbox to do otherwise. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

What about Vahnatai? Vahnatai for me is (and always has been) vah-NAH-tee. Most other ways sound ridiculous to me. -------------------- The critics agree! Demonslayer is "a five star hit!" raves TIMES Weekly! Oddly enough, I also always pronounce it vah-NAH-tee. I beleive the correct pronunciation is closer to VAH-nah-tie -------------------- Take the Personality Test!
