do you need to talk to someone to complete lark's scroll quest? in Avernum 4

OK, I'm trying to assist my fiancee through the game, and have gotten to a roadblock in the quest involving Lark's scroll translations.

She's gotten to Khoth's ruins and read the big book there, but then when she goes back to Ft. Monastery to chat with Lark, she doesn't get the dialogue box saying "BTW, I found out how to translate your scrolls." Going up to Lark's house and reading the scrolls is also unhelpful.

I seem to recall that there's a sage somewhere who sends you up to Khoth's ruins, but I don't remember who or where. Is that a necessary step? Who sends you up there?

He manages one nasty ice ray per round too, despite his terror; but just the one. With all that speed, you're expecting to get blasted with four attacks the next round; but terrified Nociduas just uses all his extra speed to drink more speed.

With Augmentation and Enduring Armor from the nearby birdbath, even wimpy characters can survive one hit from his ice ray, and so you can keep grinding him down.

While he was casting, I tried to completely fill the room with my own summoned creatures so his demon wouldn't appear.

It didn't work, but I think that might've just been a result of poor placement of my characters.

I ended up defeating him in a straight up fight, so I didn't get to carry out my experiment past the second try.

Incidentally... My melee characters are at 16 blademaster and I haven't trained it once.

That's easy, you open it from the inside!

You need to make an oblique approach.

I know, I just figured there was no way that a spell restorer would be a reward for completing a quest.

I found one secret passage. No NPC told me about it later. I did not complete every single subquest, so it's possible someone would have unlocked it later, but it had no items in it, and it doesn't seem like much of a reward.

I found it through use of the luck stat, I think: the game told me I was "lucky" to find it.
