Think how difficult it must be for a teacher to keep track of how well 5 sets of students are doing when only taught 5 different levels of a subject. Now imagine if those 5 sets are composed of 25 people with individual study goals, and this happens in each of the 5 classes. Now that teacher is overloaded 25 times worse than before. The failure is not in the school for bunching students according to ability, or regardless of ability, but to society as a whole for failing to recognize that the ability of a "school" is limited when the population reaches infinity. In fact, I would propose that a school is an asset to learning until it reaches a certain size, and then it declines in value as the population continues to increase. If it important, then eventually someone will realize that it is not college that is so expensive, but that k-12 is so marginalized that there is a huge sticker shock after basic education requirements are met. You want to see society improved and lives maximized? Fund those grades as you would fund college. No? Then sit down and shaddup. -------------------- Synergy - "I don't get it." Dikiyoba - "Dang. That the ubb will eat this thread is assured, and is likely scheduled to be included in the actual script. As an aside, or perhaps an example, the decision to close the ocean salmon fishery off the Columbia River was just reached. Immediately the common fisherman is crying a river because [plenty of fish, haven't been yet, tradition, fish still small] and that the scientists/government is going to be wasting fish again that could be getting caught by honest recreational fishermen rather than gillnetters (filthy beasts) or being turned into [catfood/fertilizer/food bank food] once they reach the hatcheries. Never mind that historical runs of over 100 million fish are no longer possible, and that all fishing is only possible because of taxpayer supported hatcheries or that the only reason that the Feds allow a fishery at all is because the state imposes limits. Never mind that Fish and Game keeps daily tract of fishing so that the fish stocks aren't harmed, and are directed to maximize fishing opportunity while preserving the fish stock. It all boils down to the damn scientists imposing their will on the common man, and reducing our freedom of opportunity. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." I neglected a topic at 2k or 3k, so I may seek room on the bandwagon. Or I may not, as that too would be a celebration of sorts. And Congratulationsish! 3500 is a mighty number. -------------------- WWtNSD? Synergy - "I don't get it." Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

For me, it is that consoles are really only good for one thing. At least with a computer you can pretend that you might get some worthwhile work accomplished. But if Jeff is interested in expanding the fanbase, moving away from computers and into consoles might be the right direction. It is just that other similar approaches have been rejected out of hand that this comes as a surprise. But I admit to knowing a comfortable nothing about xbox, so it may be the next sliced bread for indie game designers. Anything is possible I guess. -------------------- WWtNSD? Less spam? :( You have a spelling error in the first paragraph of the introduction. The word adventurers. Edit - As Crosby takes you down the path he mentions "historical locals," and he means locales. Edit2 - Asking Gabston about work, he replies "we don't tkae them all." Edit3- Black seems to be using his "tie" to drink, rather than "time." Edit4 - Whisper refers to gabston in the lower case when asked about jobs. A person is more likely to catch fish if they are fishing than talking about fishing. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." Thralni - "a lot of people are ... too weird to be trusted" Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Jeff, as an independent business owner, has the fortunate ability to pick and choose his audience. I suspect that as long as he is able to make enough money off of the Mac and PC crowd, he will avoid the extra work necessary to cater to another audience. If there comes a time that he can't survive off the current markets, he can make a decision about console games. In the meantime, it is highly unlikely that his time will be spent porting games to a multitude of consoles, when it could instead be devoted to designing new games for the console-challenged markets. -------------------- WWtNSD?
