It's not the sort of insanity that lands you in a mental hospital, or causes you to drink shampoo, or hang yourself in the hallway...
It's just the insanity that makes the fit between you and the rest of the world a bit uncomfortable.
Anyway, it's less intimidating than "Abandon hope all ye who enter here".

We can't altogether dismiss Lamarck.
Some highly significant accquired characteristics such as health, wealth and education are highly heritable. Just because they are not passed on through the genes does not mean they are not heritable.

It appears that Spamming Muffin has failed to understand something about Spidweb etiquette.
It appears that on some forums the topic starter "owns" that topic in some way, and believes that it is permissible to set rules for behaviour in that topic. The General forum does not act like that. Topics have their own lives, and the rules are those in the CoC.
As Imban says, a locked thread is one that that has already died, and has been decently interred.

I was one of the evil ones who crept onto the ubb before it was officially open... then it ate my number.

Since then I maintain a policy of non-postification.

Ah, socks!
I have a longstanding correspondence with a friend in Zagreb about the mystery that is socks.
They truly operate by other rules than things that belong in this universe.
I suspect that each sock is the intersection of some complex polydimensional surface with this universe, which seeks to find its partner in that process called "washing" and eliminate it. This explains why so many single socks emerge from the washing process. It is not mutual elimination of sock by anti-sock, but a cannibalistic phenomenon.
Socks are also sly. They hide behind radiators, under beds, and in the backs of drawers. They hide singly until they can congregate when they plot revolution. They are simply not to be trusted or to be explained by the normal rules of physics.
I am not surprised that Einstein found them to be the worthy object of his deliberations.

Yes. Well, probably.

The Second French Empire

His regime collapsed when it failed to repel the Prussian invasion of France in 1870. His only legitimate child went to Sandhurst, hung out with the British army, and was killed by Zulus.

The Second Empire had far better style than most military dictatorships, and only a couple of megalomaniacal wars. It had the distinction of directly spawning two other empires. Still, it was mostly a vanity project for one old guy with a famous name. That's no way to run a country.

The Emperor and Empress Eugenie were painted rather well by Winterhalter, who did a great job with unpromising material.

Both Napoleon and Eugenie are buried in the nondescript town in southern England where my parents live, together with the Prince Imperial. It's a great way of confusing French visitors.
