I was being too mean in my post -- of course, I wanted to. I meant that, usually, both signatures and avatars are abused (especially signatures, but not really on this board) and so I view them poorly -- or is it poorly view them? ;-) I do capture quite a lot of quotes & stuff from signatures though, and I sometimes actually download avatars. -Increasing post count with a touch of quality! I first downloaded a copy of OB for my Mac from a Hotline (great protocol, that) server. I thought "Blah, what a bad game, it's too tedious and simple, I shall most like to delete it soon." I kept thinking that, but never actually did so, rather like the Dread Pirate Cumberbund. I have another rather bad game, which I keep because it has some attributes. I do such things, and especially for computer games. Later, like a two years, I tried Ocean Bound again. I actually finished the first island, and said, "Well, that was indeed tedious, but not so bad as I initially thought. I still wouldn't want to buy 60-such islands." On the subject of puzzle games: If anyone reading this likes logic/puzzle games, I would recommend they try Minesweeper, Stained Glass, or Icebreaker. -Can-ned Food is making each post worthwhile, even on such simple threads. Either that, or trying to increase his post count, apparently. Posts: 10 | Registered: Tuesday, December 7 2004 08:00 |

Wow. I do this too. And I thought I was the only one... ;) Actually, you can "put" stuff in boxes or barrels. Simply push the container aside, then drop the stuff where the container used to be. When you reenter the town/dungeon, the container will be back in position, over the stuf. Do a Look on the container, and your stuff will appear in a Get window just like it were inside the container. Not elaborate, but it works. I do this because I choose to claim the Bandit Fort as one of my stash stores, and it adds a sense of realism to try and hide my things from scavengers. - The pen-and-paper approach is always necessary for quality RPGs or adventure games. Besides, the Journal is inadequate (although still useful) to record the information that characters really involved in a RPG-world would need to know. Ugh, here I am posting in the "General" board again. Anyway, I more or less agree with Skippy, er, "Member # 5268": Coincidences (co-incident, meaning linked incidents) exist everywhere, many of them silly or humorous. The real challenge is identifying the mechanism which generates the coincidence (maybe being that it's the Almighty's sense of humor). That said, I now say "Neat." Oh, and I never saw a face in the moon before now, although it looks more like a gorilla to me. I guess now might be a good time to ask why this message board allows such, er, IRC-ish nicks and nick changes. Then there are those whose screen names are almost whole sentences... It's just a little odd. Posts: 10 | Registered: Tuesday, December 7 2004 08:00 |

Of course, one could get into the whole abandonware controversy, and we might as well discuss copyright and "copyleft" while we are at it. However, I will say that although all of Storm Impact's games could be considered abandonware, the company -- or at least David Cook -- still holds legal rights to the games. Let's see, I spoke with Tom Zehner about this over email, and he gave the reason as being that David might want to do something with the games later and does not want them public domain. Although the swell Home of the Underdogs does in fact provide downloads and serial numbers for the TaskMaker games, those serial numbers as offered were not intended to be distributed. I believe I even heard the Macintosh Garden, another abandonware source, report that Cook threatened to sue HotU if they continued to host the TaskMaker games. Thought some of you might be interested to know all this. Posts: 10 | Registered: Tuesday, December 7 2004 08:00 |

quote:You hit it on the head, but I should've been more clear: I was only wondering how many other TaskMaker players were on this message board/forum. That and their opinion of the TaskMaker games. quote:But if the "feature" requires contact (i.e., being in a square adjacent to the group) to work, then it is nullified because, IIRC, a hostile group needs only ro move to a square adjacent from your party to enter combat. Arn't I correct? P.S. I like your signature. Posts: 10 | Registered: Tuesday, December 7 2004 08:00 |

Anyone here ever heard of Storm Impact, a now defunct Mac software company? Anyway, they under the leadership of David Cook created the shareware games TaskMaker and its sequel, The Tomb of the TaskMaker. (I'm sure you must have at least heard of them.) Being Ultima-style RPGs, they are very similar to Exile and Avernum. A summary of my opinion, Avernum is better than the TaskMaker games in regards to features, yet TaskMaker has a certain charm which inspires me to design an eidolon (mostly based on the hope of a source code release) which happened to be aptly named "Eidolon"... but that's another story. Now that I think about it, the two TaskMaker games and Avernum are actually my only experience with Ultima-style RPGs.
