Christ Ed.
You disgust me.
Fashionable cynicism stops when a subject actually means something to somebody.
Christ.
Just F*** off.

Izzannor, I am deeply saddenned by your loss, and my best wishes are with you. Ed is not representative of anyone here, and I know we all wish you only the best. It sounds hollow, as condolences always do, but I truly hope that the weight of grief begins to lift.

I heard somewhere that one explaination is that the universe caused its own beginning. I think the idea is that the universe begins with the Big Bang, expands, then something happens that causes another Big Bang, and the cycle starts over.

AAAAAAHHHH
why is being gay something to overcome? Its not some kind of weakness or defect. It's not quitting smoking - Oh, I know I shouldn't be gay, but just one hot little peice of manflesh and then I promise I wont be gay all week. Why would anybody who is gay not want to be?
Because of people like you.

C'mon guys, the 25 point programme was courteous and rational, I don't know what you have against this guy...

In a normal, rational debate then I am quite accomodating, but I think when someone starts equating homosexuality to a disability that rational debate comes to an end. I also think politeness ends when somebody posts "Uhhh... yeah. Forgive me for completely ignoring that last post." I don't see anyone comparing Fundamentalist Christians to people with physical disability.
My favourite part, however, was when David said "here's another example that very few people here are smart enough or mature enough to understand". Oh I'm sorry, maybe those on a higher plain of understanding could explain how I stupidly managed to interpret his post as 'fight the evil homosexuality inside you don't let it win'.
Sure I was offensive, but David's post was far more so. His arguments are certainly not rational, and in my opinion being polite includes an awareness of the feelings of those around you, which his post seems to completely discount.
Its nothing personal against you X, you seem to be a balanced kind of person, but I don't think David's position is particularly defensible. As Alorael said, the very fact that it led to people actually having to rationalise homosexuality it horrendous.
How about I post "I think being black is like having a brain tumour", and we'll see how polite and courteous you are.

Yes, but only if said propensity were a property of a genetic problem, and not purporting to be a product of the previous probe.

Ah, Rentboy has fallen itno the Lamark trap.

Whatever happens to us in our lives, our children will be no different becuase our genes remain fixed.
The Classic Case: If you chop the tail off a mouse, its children will still be born with tails. The gene in the mouse that gives it its tail cannot be removed, so will be passed on to its predecessors, giving them tails.

Alec, that is in part my point. In our Civilisation, there are no defining factors that
make one person significantly more likely to procreate than another. As you say strength and health are no longer factors because really there are none. In effect everyone is as likely to procreate as anyone else (assuming they can - but IVF and test-tube children mean we are no longer neccesarily erradicating infertility), and as such evolution has come to an end. The human race hasn't really evolved much at all since the beginning of proper civilisation - any change is due to imrovements in evironment. You say we are evolving to suit civilisation, but it is difficult to become more civilised. Traits like pacifism aren't going to make someone more likely to have children, and even if we all became more intelligent the world still needs low-skilled jobs to keep the machine working.

If civilisation is the goal of evolution, and we have achieved it, then surely it has put an end for the necessity of evolution? (admitedly thats a very simple explaination, but ther are some very simple people...)

Edit: I concur with DragynBob. I want big claws.

Whilst we are irradicating many previously deadly illnesses, at the same time we are creating new ones. A parituclar strain of disease could become resistant to antibiotics and other cures, whilst our treatment of the environment is increasing the risk of asthma and other allergies and even life-theratening illnesses such as cancer.
