OK, Ive found the portal, but it says I have to smash machinery...I tried a hammer, but that didnt work...and theres a door in the south of the portal room that I cant get through...How do I get through that door, and what on earth can I smash the machinery with? OK, as I said, I went to the kitty fort and looked in all the rooms, blah blah blah...met that one kitty (god Im terrible with names) then went into the hall thingy, where I find Malachai wounded, and he says we have to go to Ivalice to get some rest. I went in there, and after trapsing round for a bit, Thuryl set me straight...but when I sat on the chair in the room where said chair is by the bed, nothing happens.
