What was the moniker, again?

I have a question too. Why is that whenever I try to close a topic, I get following message...

"FYI

Responding to the e-mail sent by The_Ratt:

1. Member #4 is banned and not likely to come back.

Even though member #4 (Terror's Martyr) is banned he is still an active member of the community. He still makes scenarios and can still speak on the boards through other people. Rules about him will probably always stand. And if you don't know who he is please inform youself. I'd give you a link to his HoF entry but The Lyceum seems to be down at the moment.

2. Ed is banned and not likely to come back.

Ed is banned, true. But he has tried several times to come back. I believe the only rule about Ed is to not make a moniker with any reference to him or his name so as not to be confused as him and be banned without warning. It's mostly an inside joke for those of us who were here when Ed was.

3. Some of them just seem old, and/or need clarification.
4. There are new ones that we could add on.

As for any other edits/additions please go ahead and post specific new rules or changes you would like to see and we'll discuss them. The last edit was around two months ago and almost everything was approved then but I'm always open to suggestions.

EZboard decided to spontaneously change the Lyceum's URL. It can be found here.

Also a direct link to TM's Hall of Fame entry. I hope to find myself there someday... But that's a long ways off, and probably won't happen.

Nioca, last I remember hearing, the HoF was basically being discontinued. The last discussion about possible HoFers was brief and unresolved, and it seems to have simply fallen into disuse.

I know this because I was one of the people nominated, and thus I followed it.

Alright thanks Jewels. The member #4 thing makes sense, as well as the Ed thing, but unless the Ed thing is clarified newer members will not understand what that means (which is who the rule is targetted at). The one rule that really seems old is the Homeland one, though I may be missing something since I never really bothered to look at anything other than GF4 before I came a member.

One rule that I personally would like clarification on is arctic. I have never heard of anyone by that name, making me think his is similar to an invisible newb.

A new rule that would probably be liked, is to respect anyone with a custom title. That proves that they have been on the board for a long time.

One can hope, though...

That said, the Lyceum in general is suffering from disuse.

Arctic...

Custom titles mean nothing except that you amused the admins at some point, and they were bored. Two years ago I saw Drew, SoT, and myself were all granted custom titles. No reason, and certainly not due to tenure. I'd only been around for 4 months then.

So, does that make me fastest to be given a custom title?

Does artic ever say anything?

Well still, recieving a custom title means you did something of note at one point in time.

...

In case you are still confused, the list of "rules" is full of inside jokes. Arctic's eating habits are one of them. His original display name was Arctic Wolf. So when somebody asked what happened to people who registered and never posted, somebody else replied that Arctic Wolf must have been hungry, and we know what wolves might eat when they get too hungry.

And which member numbers are concidered an oldbies and which newbies?

If someone is number #7000-8000 is he a newbie becouse for me being #10374 everyone with lower number than #9000 is oldbie but I noticed that it's not so for rest of you "oldbies".

Is there a middle bettwen newbies an oldbies or you just over night become from newbie an oldbie?

And does post count contributes to stop being newbie sooner?

Post count does not contribute to becoming an oldbie. In fact, if you make too many stupid, uninteresting posts in an effort to obtain the meaningless approbation of your fellows, you get labelled as a permanent n00b, and if it gets annoying you get the custom title "Canned" which both refers to the fact that you are a spammer (SPAM is sold in cans, and this title was once accompanied by a Can of Spam avatar when we had avatars here), and is only one letter away from Banned, meaning if you continue to spam, you will be banned.

Instead of worrying about how many posts you have, you should try making thoughtful, intelligent, mature posts.

Will there be a BoA posse title? Just wondering.

Also, for some reason I got "canned" after I was unbanned, but Nija (I know you don't like to be called that, but it is the most recognizable name) didn't. Why is that? He is more annoying than me...

Oh, I don't know. Maybe this?

Or maybe it's because Nija was banned for blowing up in a spontaneous cloud of spam, whilst you were consistently and more aggravatingly annoying leading up to yours.

Everybody has a different answer, but all of them come down to "Anybody much older than me is an oldbie. Anybody newer than me is a newbie." For example:
"... becouse for me being #10374 everyone with lower number than #9000 is oldbie but I noticed that it's not so for rest of you "oldbies"."

A poll we've had at some point confirmed this result: The top "oldbie" was recognised as such by 96% of the people. The next got 92%. Next 86%. Next 84%. And so on. All the way down to new people with less than 10% of votes and a noob with 0%.

There have been huge posts written on "generations" of oldbiehood, but I think my formula above defines it quite nicely.

quote:
And does post count contributes to stop being newbie sooner?
No. An exessively high postcount is much more likely to lead to being considered a permanent noob.

No, no, no, say it isn't so. Is this a permanent change? Like it's not going back any time soon or ever?

*groans*

I agree that the Homeland rule is now obsolete since it's no longer offered by Spiderweb but it does offer some nostalgia. Perhaps instead of rewording all the inside jokes, I could just include the proper linkage to the Archive so that those newbs so incined can inform themselves more easily.

A little help finding the most appropriate posts would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that it was just an odd glitch with a side of quirk. The URL commonly used, http://p080.ezboard.com/The-Lyceum/bthelyceum, reroutes to what appears to be the actual address, http://p079.ezboard.com/The-Lyceum/bthelyceum.

In any case, the link on The Lyceum Proper still works, and I'm sure it hasn't been updated for aeons.

Additionally, my bookmark at home still works. I'm not at home right now (babysitting), but I'm sure its the same link as above.
