Worf won a photo contest. For the winning pics, click here.

He won 1st place in under 18 pets/wildlife, and a runner-up status in under 18 humorous.

I won a $250 fishtank, so I guess I'm getting fish. Suggestions are most welcome.

Congratulations!

I hope Worf doesn't like the fish too much. If he starts inviting them over for dinner, start worrying.

Thanks! And I've already started designing a "cat-guard" for the fishtank. He ate the last two we had. Worf must really like guppies.

Sell the fish tank. There isn't much reason for it to be that expensive. Besides, you can always get a cheap fish tank.

You know, expensive doesn't always mean better.

Neon Tetras and Rainbow Tetras (gorgeous), some Plecostamus or little catfish to clean the tank a bit, ghost shrimp, snails, Glass Catfish, Tiger Barbs...these were a lot of my favorite tropical fish and critters when I kept an aquarium. Don't put a Siamese Fighting Fish in there, and if you get a pair of Guppies, be prepared for lots and lots of Guppies, which other fish might find tasty.

ADDIT: Oh, and Kuhli Loaches...really colorful little eel-like fish that hide in stuff. I loved those things.

Yeah, the neon tetras definitely caught my attention.

Iffy, read the reast of the thread; I WON it. I didn't buy it.

No, you were the one who missinterpreted a post.
I am well aware that you won it. I just said that you should sell it. I did not imply that you bought it. Sorry for any confusion.

Clown Loaches are beautiful catfish which can get quite large after some years. Gouramis are kind of neat - they like to look up and take in air at the top of the water, and they have two long whisker-feelers. Black Tetras...I really liked those too. Forget the Tiger Barbs...they can be a bit nippy, now that I think of it.

You can't really resell a fish tank. Or at least you can't and still hope to get close to the original price. Way too much hassle, just keep it. (How many gallon by the way?)

As for fish... Get some kind of cichlid. I always liked african cichlids, but they have a bad tendency of dieing on me (as do most little fish, it just particularly hurts when it's an expensive one.) Back at home I have an oscar, which are practically impossible to kill and they get huge. So yeah, go big or go home as they say.

Why would I get a cheap fish tank when I could get a better one for free? Besides, I get the whole setup, not just the tank.

I think Salmon's fine where he is. I'll have enough scum in my aquarium with just the plants. :P

Whatever you do, don't get a snail. Two fish-batches ago, Nalyd had a snail in his fishtank, and it somehow managed to kill and eat all the fish before it died of overheating. We thought that it was the Siamese Fighting Fish, but when that disappeared too. . . Damn homicidal snails.

Let me see if I understand. Everything in the tank died one by one, and the snail was last. Therefore the snail killed everything?

A carnivorous jumping and swimming snail. More likely someone scooped them off the top of the tank one by one and tossed them out the window.

Well, Google returns over a million results for killer+snail, and over a thousand for "killer snail".

It's true!

Well, there was a half-eaten fish floating around one day. We cleaned it up later. The snail also at least quadrupled in size and weight.

I'm pretty sure they died on their own and the snail just ate their corpses. I'm having a tough time imagining a type of snail that could catch and kill a fish, and if such a creature exists I wouldn't expect to see it in a pet store.
