I just completed Geneforge 4 and I have completed G1-3 and Avernum 1-4 before that. I am waiting for Avernum 5 to come out but while waiting I dont know what to play.I am looking for some good NON SPIDERWEB RPG. What would you recommend?! -------------------- You must show me respect becouse...never mind why but do respect me! All hail me, your...something. Don't contradict me or I'l...GUARDS! This is a perfectly reasonable question, but I'm not sure this is the place for it, since answering it would amount to plugging Jeff's competition on Jeff's own website. Sure, in your case you've been as good a Spiderweb customer as possible, and plan to continue so. But maybe someone would read my rave review of Spawn of Bashan, by that other company, and decide to buy it instead of Avernum 5. Before we know it, Jeff's on the street offering to write code for food, and we never find out what happens to Khyrryk. Or maybe Jeff doesn't care. He himself plays other games, after all. But he might, since this is his business. So don't take it personally if he or his minions lock this topic. Spawn of Bashan does not exist as an actual game, but a gold star to anyone who recognizes it as a game title. -------------------- We're not doing cool. We're doing pretty. I would recommend you read Jeff's columns, they are part of various magazines on roleplaying games. You'll find other games in the places where Jeff writes his editorials. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. quote:It depends on what kind of games you like. If you like a massive story with lots of side-quests, character interactions, and so on, Baldur's Gate games are very good. (Both I, II, and various expansions.) If you like eye-candy and don't mind FPS-like gameplay, you might like The Elder Scrolls series, particularly its latest installment, Oblivion. These are the two I've played most recently, but there are many more possibilities. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. Not particularly an RPG, but Escape Velocity Nova is great for wasting hundreds of hours. There's even a windows version available. And the price is damn cheap for as much as you get out of it. -------------------- http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/join.asp?idr=412684821 alexkaltsas.com Posts: 145 | Registered: Sunday, February 18 2007 08:00 |

Next to Spiderweb, Blizzard is my favorite game company (PC and Mac). Diablo II is probably my favorite non-Spiderweb RPG. Of course, it is completely linear, but the action moves along nicely and it's an all around good game. If you like that stuff, anyway. There's also World of Warcraft, if you like MMO's and have money to burn. I was quite the Blizzard fanatic once, before I was caught in the great Spiderweb, from which there is no escape. :P -------------------- "We were meant to live for so much more. Realmz is great if you like the most meaningless grind possible in an RPG. I would put Ultima IV over III, too - it was a bit more user-friendly. -------------------- In today’s America, there are more World of Warcraft players than farmers. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Under 30 mb? That limits you options. You could always go for Nethack. :Edit: After looking at Ambrosia's website, I have o recommend Harry the Handsome Executive. Good times, if you have an older Mac. :) [ Wednesday, September 26, 2007 10:01: Message edited by: Andraste ] -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition is a fantastic value if you've never played it. Edit: I should have read the "30MB" part. Hmmmm - how about these? (I think they're all free) Sword of Fargoal Remake Halls of the Dead - You'll need DosBox for this (Google Dosbox and try to get one of the GUIs for it as well that make using it even easier) http://www.abandonia.com/games/306/FaeryTaleAdventure2-HallsoftheDead Halls of the Dead (Faery Tale Adventure 2) - reminds me a bit of Spiderweb games, but different, of course. Some free Ultima remakes for the PC: http://reconstruction.voyd.net/index.php?event=project&typeKeyword=remakes Dungeon Odyssey is a bit of casual fun: http://www.malfador.com/domain.html Final Fantasy Dark Cloud: http://www.reloaded.org/game.php?GameID=247 [ Wednesday, September 26, 2007 12:59: Message edited by: Ming ] Posts: 102 | Registered: Monday, September 3 2007 07:00 |

quote:In that case I'd recommend Blades of Avernum and/or Blades of Exile. BoA has some good custom scenarios. BoE has a huge number of exellent scenarios for any taste, but the engine is probably too old for you. I know that you've mentioned that you didn't like Avernum engine as much as Geneforge, but most games under 30 megabytes in size are going to be even older than Avernum. Much older in many case. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. Kingdom of Loathing, the best MMO ever created, http://www.kingdomofloathing.com I haven't played MMO's for a little while, but I remember that you just can't beat some of the jokes in this one. Have a chefs hat, a martini, and a spork. If you really want a super small downloadable RPG, there are two of them at http://www.rakeingrass.com -- Styrateg, and Undercroft. Short..
