I suppose if we're on the theme of posting courses: PEAI 1600 - Raquetball GMUS 1030 - Recital and Program Attendance GMTH 1010 - Intro to Math* EMTC 3111 - Survey Research for Electronic Media EMTC 3151 - Christian Approaches to Electronic Media EMTC 3720 - ProTools Production Practicum EMTC 3731 - Video Crew and Production Practicum COM 3220 - Visual Communication BEGE 3760 - Christian Worldview Integration I am also working on the campus radio station's production team, volunteering with the sports video crew, and leading the school's clowning ministry. Whee. *all of the math courses higher than Geometry conflicted with my schedule. I would've taken Calc II if it didn't conflict with Survey Research. -------------------- The Silent Assassin blames you. Beware. This semester: 106-473 Editorial English * Eh, I'm going into a postgraduate degree in journalism from a bachelor of science, so I figure I ought to take at least a couple of classes in basic principles of professional writing. Should be easy enough. 106-518 Print Production and Design * See above. 161-507 Ethical Theory and Practice * So you say there's a subject where I basically get to sit around in a circle and discuss ethics for 8 hours every Saturday? Awesome. 136-531 Genetics in Society * I'm kinda hoping for this class to be heavy on science and light on philosophy so I can ace it. On the other hand, I'm also kinda hoping for it to be the other way round so I can actually learn something. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! It's a bit of an embarrassment, but the only thing I'm really trying to figure out is how to make rock candy. It seems obvious; boiling water, adding lots of sugar, and then suspending sticks in it for a few days. But there's a whole bunch of stuff with seed crystals I keep forgetting about. Academically, it's finals week, so the only research is review. -------------------- Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck. Currently I'm researching how to brew various types of alcohol, from what I've read so far it sounds kinda dangerous. Posts: 4 | Registered: Sunday, January 14 2007 08:00 |

You've all but hit it on the head, Alo. Indeed, many people who call themselves Christian will only approach the media with pitchforks. And I'm obviously not one of them :P . Essentially, the course surveys theories of applying Chritian virtues, ethics, and theology to working in the world of mass media (our particular class will be focusing mostly on broadcasting). Today, for example, we discussed one particular approach that says that it's ungodly to be involved in any form of secular "culture" at all (the class as a whole dismissed this one as ignorant hogwash). We also discussed an opposing theory that said there should be no borderlines between the sacred and secular. Another theory states that the worlds of sacred and secular constantly overlap and are more times than not in conflict with each other, etc. Later on in the course, we will be going through case studies involving Christian-related cultural phenomena such as The Passion of the Christ, The recent Chronicles of Narnia movie, the PAX network, trends in Christian radio, et. al, trying to determine the motivations behind them and what the motivators believed about God, etc. We will also supposedly be discussing topics like "Should every film produced by a Christian involve the message of Salvation", or "Should there even be a 'Christian' genre of film or music, when meant to be released to the public at large," or "Is positive, encouraging music necessarily godly". Frankly, I'd like to be through the paradigms involving the false dichotomy of God v. All, and discussing practical applications of theology and ethics as soon as possible. -------------------- The Silent Assassin put a nice large mouse on my pillow. Or maybe it was the cat. I dunno. Quote Cryptozoology: Distilling can be dangerous, but brewing is pretty safe. My brother makes his own wine and beer and he hasn't blown anything up yet. Oh I'm sure I'd manage to blow something up. I have a habit of getting severely injured doing very safe things. And I meant brewing, distilling, the whole process. Yesterday, I started teaching myself C++. Not technically research as much as practice and trying out examples from online tutorials, but I do have the pleasant sensation of broadening my knowledge. It's surprisingly similar to the feeling of leveling up in Exile. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. My favorite use of C++ was the time I froze a computer in my high school's lab during computer science with For the uninformed, this causes a computer's built-in speaker to beep on an infinite loop. :P [ Thursday, January 18, 2007 00:30: Message edited by: Tyranicus. ] -------------------- "Tyranicus is about the only one that still posts in the Nethergate Forum." —Randomizer Spiderweb Chat Room Shadow Vale - My site, home of the Spiderweb Chat Database, BoA Scenario Database, & the A1 Quest List, among other things. You could have just put while(true). Because the way it is now, I'd worry that eventually the Gods of Mathematics will get fed up by all the beeping and declare that 1 is no longer equal to 1 just to make your computer shut the hell up. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast.
