Just as a note: In English, questions that are answered with yes/no are not usually formed by writing it like a statement with a question mark. The word order changes: "Is my signature too long? Do I have to change it?" It is a bit long, yes. It's even longer than mine... I'd suggest using only one funny quote and removing the last part. Eeveryone knows your posts are "Written by MagmaDragoon"; that's what it says next to your post! :) -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Um...point of the poll? Do whatever you want. At least until people start to complain. It's your signature and it doesn't appear to be breaking any rules. Dikiyoba gave a more thorough answer in the Geneforge Forum. Dikiyoba is too lazy to go find it and repeat it here. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

You know, if you wanted us to be able to vote, it would have been nice to actually give us time to do so instead of having the poll stop the minute you started the topic. Having said that, your signature is kinda long. Shorten it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I'm all for no signatures, or at most, signatures that contain useful links. Quotes get stale quickly. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Hear hear, Drew! For reference, Magma, your signature takes up 18 lines on my screen, which is more than half my typical browser window. Aran, yours takes up 13 lines, more than a third the window. Seriously guys, it's pretty dumb, it's just information clutter that makes it take longer and be more annoying to read the boards. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

But it's such a very deep quote. Ah well. Anyway, it took some time to find the translation, so I hope nobody will mind if I put it in this post in case I need to find it again. quote: -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Unfortunately, having just finished a gruelling statistics course, all I think about when I see Aran's quote is the balance between Type I and Type II error. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Mh. I never looked at it that way. (I haven't yet reached Type I/II errors in Statistics, but I read about them and I think my dad explained them to me once). -- The original poem (at Wikisource): (The emphasized section was my sig) quote:Which is, translated: quote:You can see that the whole poem is a lot more fatalistic (even blindly obedient towards a deity) than I usually appear myself. However, the two stanzas I quoted describe a dilemma I can identify with, in a certain sense. It seems like a rift between realism and fantasy. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. quote:I fail. —Alorael, who regularly toys with the idea of putting links in his signature. Since there's nothing constant about it, he'd just have to choose random words, which is an appealing concept. The only obstacle is the effort of putting in those tags. He already spends enough time on signatures and name changes. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

My favourite quote from Goethe, (I think it's Goethe) is the one about life and art being different. I can't actually remember what it is right now, but I have it inside my locker at college. And tags can be fun Alorael. Jeez, I hope somebody goes blind looking at that. If I ever have to type and then again... Edit: My signature is nice and short, Diki. My signature is rather long and I've never seen any problem with it. It could somehow shorten it though by going horizontally instead of taking so much room down the page. -------------------- When you think you can't get any lower in life and hit rock bottom, God hands you a shovel. A signature should never be longer than the post it follows. ;) -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill.
