Swords are better in my opinion because the pole in a pole arm can be sliced off, in real life anyway.Besides swords being faster allow you to strike quicker . -------------------- George Bush is a Nazi - Eric Cartmen I'm not as think you stoned I am Visit the RIFQ Forums Posts: 462 | Registered: Tuesday, June 21 2005 07:00 |

You are aware that neither of those considerations actually apply in any SW game, right? :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

In real life, if you tried to use a sword to hack somebody's spear in half, you'd get gutted first anyway. -------------------- Polaris - owns you. Undead Theories - double U slash E Posts: 3323 | Registered: Thursday, April 25 2002 07:00 |

In real life, it's rather difficult to chop through a thick stick of hard wood, especially if you don't want to dull your sword. That's ignoring the metal covering on some spears. Also in real life, speed depends on specific weapons, not just "sword." The larger the weapon, the more inertia it has and the slower it's going to move. —Alorael, is quite certain that knives are fast, but he wouldn't want to attack anybody with a spear holding a knife. Hooray for parrying daggers! The blade had lots of notches and was used while fencing. It had a chance of catching the opponent's blade and perhaps even break it. Regardless of the feasiblity of it, it sounds cool. Dikiyoba wonders whether parrying daggers would appeal to Vahnatai given the complexity of forging them and their dislike of being encumbered. I am a weirdo, and would much prefer to take on the world with a singleton magic user proficient in both mage and priest spells. -------------------- He may look like an idiot, and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you. I know I am not the only singleton user, but how many of them don't use weapons of any kind? Give me Avatar, Protective Circle and Shockwave, and I'm good. edit: I must be the oldest member with the least number of posts. quote:A lot of members only post a few times to ask for help in a specific game. Others just get bored and don't come back. It's a good thing, really. Dikiyoba knows it is a bad question because it might encourage more useless posts, but is there a place to find a list of the number of posts needed to qualify for a certain rank? Thank you, Uhh...ben? Now I feel stupid. Is Postaroni, Pizzabella! a recent addition? Not that Dikiyoba is anywhere close to recieving that title. Edit: Sig change. [ Sunday, January 08, 2006 20:24: Message edited by: Dikiyoba ] Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Postaroni is the most recent addition to the title list. Drakey added it a few months ago. —Alorael, who hasn't seen Drakey in a while. This either means that James is sulking or that Drakefyre is hatching devious, fruit-filled plans. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

If BoA uses a system anything like Avernum 3 [I'm willing to bet that its very similiar] I'll go with neither. I did a little trial a while ago... here is what I came up with. Parry = ((dex+1)/3)*4 *Base To-Hit = 45+(dex*5) +Opposed To-Hit Penalty = 40+(dex*5) $carry = 50+(str*30) Int Spell Multiplie = .4+(.4*Int) Class Spell Multiplier = 1+(cla*.12) * To figure true to-hit find your base, factor in equipment penalties, and opponent oppossed penalties, then cap it if it passes 95% + The oppossed penalty caps when their to-hit is reduced to 5%. $ Carry caps at 350. weapons blessed -5 steel -10 iron -15 bronze -20 stone -20 armor helms iron -5 armor leather -10 studded -15 chain -20 plate -25 shields small shield -5 large shield -10 Clearly dexterity is the best weapon :D put someone's dex up high enough, and put a stick in their hand and they never miss :P [I ignored the damage bonus because its included in the description of the weapon] it may be a bit more expensive, but dexterity also grants you a bonus to your parry and opposed to-hit rolls [lowers your opponents chance of hitting you in combat] PS. There are some descrepencies between the int based spell bonus and the class skill based spell bonus because I used two different methods of derivation... I'll have to go back through and re-crunch the numbers... make them both percentages. [for those who don't know 1.00 = 100%] [ Monday, January 09, 2006 01:26: Message edited by: Ezrah, Kitty of Wonder ^.^ ] -------------------- If everyone would just forgive someone else, so much pain would be taken off of all of our shoulders... but as tenderness is a virtue it is also a failing, any who would do such a thing usually fall to those who wouldn't. - Ezrah Posts: 50 | Registered: Thursday, April 15 2004 07:00 |

Well, while having a monstrous Dexterity certainly helps you hit enemies, some of us like doing damage when we hit, too. =P Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |
