What happens to people who stop posting for an extended period of time?

Dikiyoba thinks that if UBB bugs decide to delete accounts, they ought to at least delete the accounts of people who aren't around anymore.

Strangely enough, all eaten accounts have been active and they have been disproportionately picked from the better known members.

Under other circumstances, I'd theorize that other accounts of inactive or less well-known people were deleted and nobody noticed, but the database contradicts that. Nobody's been done in for a while now, except for Saunders and Mystery Man.

Each of whose demises was a medium-size cataclysm, incidentally. I recall Drakey feverishly working to restore threads that day, and the boards were down for many hours.

And Rosycat will return eventually. Omlette did, and Rosy hasn't been gone by far as long as he had.

I don't know if anything happens, as I hadn't posted for nearly a year (or was it more than a year?) before I came back. I've never really made a big noise here, though, so I don't think anyone would notice if my account had been eaten.

I would notice when I tried to come back, but other than that, no.

Imagine the heartburn if UBB ate that account.

Dear probably got a life.

On the other hand, I could contemplate that custom titles are quite over-rated when you take into account that, say, working towards a knighthood would be much funner and give a better title to flaunt. :P

Unfortunately, while achieving a custom title takes little beyond being witty, understanding and generally non-noobish for a very, very long time, getting knighted takes more of an effort.

Although when you think about it, there are far more knights than there are custom-titled members on this board.

Erg, I had a dream last night that the board ate my account. It was sad. I need to stop reading the boards before going to bed.

That'd technically be true... if we didn't have TM, Alec and Djur flying around. Sure, they're good kids on the whole, but eh.

Alec is gone. So is Djur. While I can cope without the latter, Spiderweb isn't what it was before either of them left.

Back when Djur would FYT and Alec would engage you in debates of sociopolitics and military history which you would inevitably lose, us newbies had a HARD TIME! And, by golly, we LIKED it! Spoilt brats.

Sssshhh! Nobody will ever know... If Aran can be a jedi, I can too...

Alorael, if your account was ever deleted, I'd personally have a week of mourning for you. There'd be silent ticker tape parades, wailing widows, and cheap snacks.

Where exactly all these things would come from are, as of yet, still a mystery.

:) (I'd use the term "LMAO", if it wan't AOL-speak. Which it is.)

EDIT: OH! I just saw Aran's sig... Neat.

SupaNik should be singling out you, Alex, instead of Aran. After all, it was you that found his mistake. :P

Aran: Rosy's last post on Polaris was in ADoS's 'Life In A Fishtank' thread, in early September.

Thanks to the Polaris search function.

Actually, I saw the mistake, but I didn't bother adding [sic] or some crap in the signature. Also, September 3rd is what I meant by "four months ago". Roughly accurate, right?

Djur earned his title the hard way, by winning a competition that required brains and access to the Novah lexicon.

—Alorael, who earned his title the easy way, by posting hellaciously.
