Does anyone know of any non-religious, non-partisan websites dedicated to depression - from general bad moods to severe depression and bipolar disorder - and to helping people get out of bad moods and depression? I was thinking of making one if there's not already a good one out there, but if there is already a good one (which there probably is), I don't want to waste my time making one.

Why don't you just use google? If you can't find anything by about page five, you can assume that even if something does exist, it's probably not really that good if it's before page five.

If you are trying to help a particular person, you'll do a lot more by talking to that person yourself and convincing him to seek professional help if the problem is serious enough.

Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword,
For it too has the power to kill.
However well placed word, unlike a well placed sword,
Can also have the power to heal.

I was actually thinking of creating a site for depressed people in general, but I've thought better of it. Now I feel rather silly for having posted the message on three different boards only to change my mind about it. :o

http://www.beyondblue.org.au

It's the Australian Depression Initiative or something. Beside from being an "official" site, it actually has a very large amount of useful content, from information on the diseases and their causes, to triggers, and how to both help a) yourself, and b) your friends.

Also has good links, from memory.

Worth a look, at any rate.

Edit: bad url

A Sucaran Child is standing here.
You say, "hello"
The small child looks at Preserver Aldous wide-eyed and awed.

At the Lyceum I already pointed him to the international version of that initiative at www.beyondblue.org .

(See, kiddies, this is why you shouldn't cross-post. It impairs interforum communication.)

That site appears to be nothing but sponsored links.

Wow. Okay, that's what I get for assuming it really was the international version of the Australian site rather than a knockoff by a cybersquatter. Whoops.

Spam! Now with anti-depressant additives!

Edit: And, like Thuryl, I have to hand it to them; the apparent professional design kept me from realizing it was all ads at first. Pwned.

Edit2: The first link is slightly off; the link url is ".com.au", but the correct one is ".org.au" like in the anchor.

That site offers no psychological aid, which would presumably have been the main concept of ADoS' site.

As you may notice, I already posted a retraction. No need to rub it in.

What I found on the 'Living Well' section of this site is a lot better than what I found anyplace else, it touched more than my mind.

Living Well

Loss of Joy (from that site)

Selfdestructive Behaviour (from the site)

Relaxation (from the site)
