The Key (Spoiler Laden Post Follows) in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

This post is intended for those who have finished the game and thus will be full of spoilers.

I've finished the game once, but I left three things undone that time. I didn't make any anvil-forged magic items, I didn't unlock Khyryk's door, and I didn't go back and unlock the black pit in the crazy Shaper Monarch's swamp dungeon.

Now I am close to the end of the game again. I have seen some dialogue which suggests that the key (to Shaper Monarch's black cell) is in Northforge.

However, once I get into Northforge, I suspect that I'll get wrapped up in finishing the game and skip the key. If I want to find that key, go back to Shaper Monarch's place, and open that cell, I suspect I'll have to delay the ordinary scripted quests.

Will I get a choice to delay them, or will I have to dodge Greta as she comes up and triggers the game-ending events? Will it make a difference if I come across from the west, going through the power station, rather than coming down from the north, going through the front door?

Thanks.

I got a character killed playing as a rebel and interrupting some Shapers who were trying to play sabotage-the-lizards. My guy got killed because somebody on the other team knew "Kill." The sound effect and light show were really impressive for a half second before I started cursing about getting a dead character.

Also notice that at different points you may be directed to stand by different doors. There are two doors from guest chambers to the debate hall, and first you stand by one, later you stand by another at the north end of a passage leading to guest chambers other than your own.

Hey guys, I was initially frustrated because I tried copying and pasting the entire thing and I got that error message about broken dialog headers.

So then I said, Let's look at the script. I saw that the original script ended around node 131. The new scripts all seemed to start around node 132.

So instead of copy-and-pasting everything, I just copied and pasted the end, i.e. 132 to 150 or so.

That didn't do it. So I looked around node 5, that's the sign node, for hints.

In addition to the cutesy text "or you can edit your character" there's a number of important numerical doo-hickeys that I missed the first time.

Here's the original. Notice that nextstate=-1 just means boring stuff, go back to non-dialog, but in the correct script it's different.
begintalknode 5;
state = -1;
nextstate = -1;
condition = 1;
question = "special";
text1 = "The sign says:";
text2 = " SUPPLY STORAGE";
Here's the new script:
begintalknode 5;
state = -1;
nextstate = 5;
condition = 1;
question = "special";
text1 = "The sign says:";
text2 = " SUPPLY STORAGE";
text3 = " Or you could try editing your character.";
So I altered that nextstate to 5.

It took a little more work than copy-and-pasting, but on the bright side, boring level-grind that took way too long with the shift-D cheats has become much easier.

P.S. to Spiderweb game designers: you guys really enjoyed Fallout, eh? I'm just guessing there, because I get a hunch that you were inspired by it somewhat. That's just my impression, I could be wrong.
