Please explain to me how spending half an hour walking from town to town or bashing your head into every available wall is "challenging".
I agree, the repetetivness of such searching could wear down a man with head of steel. The idea of secret tunnels and hidden passages has always been an intrical part to the games. However, perhaps there could be a better way for them to be found, instead of "bashing your head into every availabe wall." What if the party's nature lore opened such passages?

quote:
Save your game. Try the unidentified item on. If it's cursed, reload your saved game. If it's not cursed, wear it. Again, I don't see how this is exciting or challenging, and it's only "mysterious" for the few minutes before you take it back to town or cast a spell to get it identified.
And I don't see how finding a rare and valuable item is any less special just because you know what it is as soon as you find it.
I don't really agree. One of the things that made the games great was the mysterious nature of the world around your party. Imagine fighting your way through a massive 8 level dungeon, killing some demon lord on each level, finally reaching the lowest pit of hell, finding and tearing open a ancient warchest exposing an item of great power, and automaticaly the game labels it for you as the legendary "Xian underwear" which will never chafe and will spend hours talking to you and your xian skull. The point is, it becomes more realistic when you don't automaticaly know what everything is. Perhaps one of the special traits could be "Relic Historian," which granted the idenification of most items. Oh I wish that was in BoA! I'd make a scenario where u had to take ur relic histroian from his job a a proffesor, to go on a last crusade to find the holy grail, and kill nazi's.

The Simpons seem to be suffering from this "lack of new material" syndrome the most and the symptoms seem to be a heavey reliance on references to pop culture. Seems like most comedy shows are going that way, SNL used to be decent, but now look at it . . . not pretty no more. There seems to be a lack of original comedy (i.e. BOC "cowbell skit," or just the dialog from Monty Burns . . . .)

And anyone else notice a huge conservative agenda hidden within American Dad? Seriously, its anitchristain too . . . just wierd. And the fact the animation looks the same as family guy. I dont think the show will last till next season

Walls are not always "hallow" contrary to the design of many of the cities in A3 and BoA. For a more realistic look try using the hieght adjustment to make city walls. Usually about 3 units higher than normal ground level. Also make them about 2 squares thick. Add ramparts by making the inside half of the wall one unit lowwer. Add whatch towers and gate houses by putting actual walls on your created hieght walls. Stock each whatchtower with a little food and some arrows/bolts/javalins or what ever projectile nessasary. Hallow walls have their place and they do look cleaner in the game, but to be more realistic use the hieght adjustment.

In monster built caves (like where many goblins seem to live) those cave walls are not stable so remember to put in wooden pillars to support it.

Thank you, i gave that a shot but it doesn't like my OS. I'm pretty sure it only runs on OS9. There were some other good things on that site though.

Does anyone know how to convert .avi to .dvd? seriously i've been searching the web for nearly 3 days now . . . . Well . . . a few hours stretched over 3 days anyway. It seems like there are hundreds of windows programs for conversion, and one or two for mac osx, but there is not one program out there i found that could work on my mac os 9.2.

So if anyone knows of a program that will convert a .avi file into a .dvd file and works on mac os 9, please inform me. thank you

How do YOU come up with . . . in Blades of Avernum Editor

. . .names for the many different things that need names in your scenarios? People, governments, cities, locations . . . . there are so many things to name, it just gets hard to be original.

I guess there is lots of resources to look at; mythology, foriegn names, name books of some kind, or one of my favorites; just thinking of some kind of random grunt, (for monsters and such that no scenario can be without) and making it into a name like Urgon, Morg, and Yort. Lol, no really those names are pure gold. Its just as easy as lifting something heavy.

So editors, how is it that YOU think up original names for the nameable things in your scenario worlds? . . . and maybe give a few examples.

Shame about it not working on anything but OSX. Maybe want to make a note of that on your download site, save people the trouble. Maybe I'll get a better mac one of these days.

Well, It was compiled with "XCode." . . . . I have what is known as a "9.1 OS mac", and so therefore it won't work it just says it was damadged or unusable by my computer. I don't know what "Xcode" is, but is there possibly an equivalent writing program that would allow it to be in a format that a mac of lesser power, say one OS 9.1 could use.

. . . . I swear if you build this program for me i will make a couple . . . . possibly even several, or even a few scenarios. I just hate those 2D squares so much . . . Coding isn't so bad, its all just words . . . . its drawing those terrain squares that takes forever. The concept of this 3D program is great btw

If I offended anyone, i apologize. Lifting is a big part of my life and I just wanted to dicuss it. I'm not looking for any kind of ego boost, I only wanted to talk about lifting, like other threads talk about music or peoples interests, or "how many push ups u can do in 2 minutes." If you knew me in person, you'd know i'm not a person who likes to show off or boast a lot, actions will speak for themselves. So if lifting isnt your thing i understand, life is too short to waste on things you don't like doing.

I don't know how many in 2 minutes, but i've done over a hundred a fews time before. I seem to remember it being part of my official "sophomore football initiation" and running 2 miles in under a certain time. Then came the horrible unofficial initiations at that nights team dinner. Good ol football . . . can't wait till next season.
