Hey, just downloaded Geneforge (1), and I really like the game. Unfortunately, it only seems to have a display option for full-screen. Is there any way I can run this program in a window? I'm using Vista.

No.
But do you see a key on the bottem of the key board? It is in between alt and ctrl (control).

Press it during play and it should minimize it.
It should work, but it might not. Try it.

Edit -You could also hold down alt, then press tab.

I've played the Geneforge games on Win98, XP, and Vista. None of them has a windowed mode. I wish it did so I could keep an eye on the time; some of us have to stop for sleep. (I once played until 3A.M., local time, without realizing it.)

EDIT: Iffy - I've long since tried your suggestions. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they don't work.

Was it Vista you tried it on?
That guy is using a Vista.

Edit -Don't you have a watch? There are some cheap ones that include seconds.

What about alt+enter? Works for me...though admittedly I am running XP.

Well that signature was out of date, since I've not been here in forever.

Thanks for the help, but it looks pretty grim for running the program in a window. I've tried all your suggestions, and well the best is ALT tab or Windows-tab, both which switch between programs, but it's not very elegant since the display shakes and it takes a few seconds.

Anyway, thanks for your input!

I have Vista Home, I think.

Yes, I do have a watch (I'm wearing it now, in fact), but when I'm on the computer, I prefer to just look at the clock in the system tray. Much quicker for me.

I know what you mean. I've come to the conclusion that the Geneforge series wasn't coded for windowed play.

Don't give up!

I'm trying to get creative here and thinking you might consider running a virtual machine on Vista which can then run in a window. It sounds complicated but its really not.

Try the free download of Virtual PC 2007.

Or, perhaps there is a good Mac OS emulator that could also be run in a window, and you could download the Mac version! :)

I can't think of a reason why this would not work for you. It's not like Geneforge is a fast-paced graphic wonder like Bioshock. It should run fine without lag.

dxwnd is out there if you google it. Seems like most people use it for Maple Story.

Certainly a much simpler solution than mine. :)
