OK. I have a question for everyone. The more responses I get, the better I can develop my Blades of Avernum scenario. I left a bit open to see what you guys like. So what do you think is the best bad guy? I have a list, or you can name one that you think would be cool.

A. Dragon
B. Vahnatai
C. Insanely Powerfull and Intelligent Cow
D. Human
E. The Person Who Is Your Leader In The Game
F. Demon
G. Slitherazakai
H. Nephilim
I. Nepharim (basically the same anyway)
J. Magical Creations (slimes, alien beasts, etc..)
K. Insane ArchMage
L. Other (and name it please)

--------------------
I start this off, without any words.
I got so high, I scratched till I bled.
Love myself, better then you.
I know it's wrong, so what should I do?

"L = Other" is definetely my favourite. It's basicallly a whole bunch of meanies, comprised of all of the races. Say you g=fight and defeat the Nepharim in the first part of the scenario, then you go on to the Insane Archmage, and so on, like in E/A3. Just have it that the slimes were made by the Nepharim Chieftain of the bad guys, (and ofcourse have the slimes), the cockroaches were made by the Insane Archmage (have the roaches), the Alien Beasts were made by the Vahnatai (have the beasts), and so on - for ever!

An enemy with a sound reason for being in the scenario at all, let alone your enemy, is by far better than anything else. Evil for evil's sake rarely works well, and insanity is even worse unless it's moderate insanity that plays a supporting role to character background.

—Alorael, who doesn't particularly care about species. Humans, especially non-magical humans, are often less likely to fall into the Generic Evil Guy trap, but anything can work and anything can be trite.

Of course there will be a reason for the bad guy. BTW I am not sure if I was too clear earlier, but what I mean is what is the best boss? Of course throughout a scenario you will run into various types of enemies and bad guys. I'm wondering what is the best final fight? Not the entire fight, that can be worked out, just the boss.

Consider making a scenario that ends with something other than a fight. Build up the anticipation of a climactic battle, and then give the party a different kind of challenge entirely. If you do it right, they'll love you for it. This should probably be in the BoA forum.

Thank you Slasher, that's what I said. The reason this is not in the BOA forum, is because I figure that this is the Avernum Trilogy. Meaning chances are more people will have varied opinions. Of course, it might be the same in BOA, but you got lucky..

K, A and F are too sympathic to be killed.
C is fun, but nothing more.
B, D, G, H, I and J are boring.
i think some kind of intrigue (political or not) involving your supervisor would greatly help your scenario.
if you make it right, it may well become one of the best ever. (ive experienced that next to all custom-made plots are crap)
i wanted to do a similar thing, but i dont have the full boa version. come to think of it, why didnt you post this in the boa forum?

Maybe a crazed wizard like Linda to kill. Or the Empire/Avernum war again. Or some big powerful Adze-Haakai. Or, even better, all three.

When the topic is a question for the sake of one person, and when it has not grown into anything greater than that, and when that question has been answered, and when that person has been BANNED, the topic is dead. Leave it alone.
