An idea that might increase the flexibility of graphics is the ability to swap certain colors with other colors. I noticed that there are many user made graphics that often times seam to just be recolors of the original done by shifting the hue slightly. By adding such a feature to the engine you could use a single graphic and have it display it in several diferent colors. Another way of doing this would be to have set range of colors (usualy blue) that could be replaced with a diferent range of colors. I've seen this done in Duke Nukem 3D and Daggerfall, but I believe that both those titles only had 256 colors, I don't know how well it would work in true color. The hue adjustment idea would probably still work though, (I think they offer this in rpg maker 2k).

I like the idea! But it probably won't happen. And poor Daniel Ray would be out of a job!

No offense taken. I'm not a good artist, so I leave the more complex work to those who are.

He may not do much else besides pallet shifts, but they're good pallet shifts.
Much better than what I can do with my lame editing programs.

MS Paint?
*falls over laughing*
No. That takes forever. You have to do all the color-changing manually, unless there's something I missed, or if there's been an update. I use Paint Shop Pro. It works much better than MSPaint.

Simple color shifts are pretty pointless to post as custom graphics, or as edits because they're so easy to do that anyone with Paintshop/Photoshop can do it with a handful of clicks.
If you look at the Avernum Series, this was one of the most disappointing aspects about the graphics. The difference between a slith and a slith warrior and a slith chieftain was nothing more than a few cheap hue/saturation morphs. Yes, I am guilty of basically having done this for my Dryad, but that was just a beginning graphic for me. As soon as I do another, better version, I'll ask Drakefyre to remove and replace it... I'd better get on that.

EDIT: Program Title Clarification

Paint? Are you crazy? You have to switch the Red/Green/Blue values for every single little pixel...

Are there any freeware graphics programs that can do color shifts?

Yes. Actually, the program I use is effectively freeware. (Technically, you can register it, and theoretically get a better version, but there isn't much point to registering. It's painful to try doing anything other than color shifts with it, but it works well for that.)

The program is called EasyPEG. I don't remember where I found it, but a search should locate it with no difficulty.

I found it. Ahh, now I can also pack the Louvre with color edits. *Gets trampled by an angry mob* Just kidding, just kidding... :)

True ONLY if you are handy with a graphics editor. For those that are not, having these graphics handy is worthwhile.

The entire point of the graphics DB is to remove a barrier some might face in development of a good scenario. Color-shifted graphics MIGHT be handy in a number of scenarios, so let's make it easy to use them.

The more barriers like this we can ID and remove, the more likely we are to see lots of good scenarios. This is my philosophy, and the driving reason I support these efforts.

Now, having said that, we DO need more original graphics for the Louvre. C'mon, those of you who can edit graphics - give it a try!
