I am currently playing Avernum (1 of 5).

1) I am curious about the release years of Spiderweb games.

I've not been able to find such information on the web site.

Does anyone happen to have a list of the release years of each of the Spiderweb games?

2)I've not yet looked at Geneforge. I presume it uses the same core engine/framework/library as Avernum?

3)Does anyone happen to know how Blades of Avernum relates to the Avernum series? Same fantasy game world, but different code base?

Well..Avernum only turned Geneforge-ish in Avernum 4..

Since Azuma doesn't seem to feel very helpful tonight, I can answer your questions.

1) Personally, I do not know. But I feel like the info's around here somewhere.

2) Yes and no. The Geneforge series uses the same engine that Jeff adapted for Avernum 4 and 5, but it had the engine first. There is considerable overlap in terms of graphics (but it's getting better :P ), but the content of the games is worlds apart. Avernum 1-3 uses a different engine than Avernum 4, 5, and Geneforge, one which plays a bit more like Nethergate.

3) Blades of Avernum is based on the engine used in Avernum 1-3 (appropriate, because is was released between 3 and 4). It is based in the same world, though that can vary depending on who made the scenario you're playing. Generally, the community of designers (including myself) decides where Blades of Avernum will go.

So I think a lot of the confusion here is over the Avernum engine, because it changed drastically with the release of Avernum 4. Anyway, hopefully that was helpful.

Avernum 1-3, Blades of Avernum, and Nethergate use minor variations on the same engine. The Geneforge games use a quite different engine, so you should check one out to compare. Avernum 4 and 5 use a sort of hybrid of the other two engines.

Listen carefully because some of your options may have changed.

1. I would assume that the games were released in the same year they were copyrighted, and somewhere in the folder is the copyright date.

My child choked on the plastic wrapping that the list was shipped in. The wrapping was not listed as a choking hazard. Who do I direct my lawsuit against?

Bah! Shouldn't people know by now that small children attempt to consume everything?
