Hilarious! I literally have tears in my eyes. It's amazing that folks had meetings and threw out ideas and had focus groups and concluded this is a good name. Did they not ever say it? Unbelievable.

Yeah, that's what I don't get. It's not just this specific product...I mean you gotta think for every bad movie, bad product, bad name, bad anything...these people sit down and talk about it, put hundreds if not thousands of hours into production and not ONE person in the dozens (or hundreds in movies) of people ever say "Uh, hey guys, this really really sucks."

The best example I got is that movie The Last Legion about the 'history of the sword in the stone' which they also call Excalibur...which were NOT the same sword. You'd think of the hundreds of people involved in the production of an Arthurian myth movie (even a bastardization of one) atleast ONE would KNOW THE BASIC STORY.

Looks like the company that made it is based in Singapore. Maybe everyone (and I mean everyone) involved in its design was a non-native English speaker? At least, I hope that's the case.

Given that "i.Beat" is about the most cheesy you can get on the scale of imitating brand names, that makes a lot of sense.

Which reminds me of the hilarity that was their user manual. Somebody set up me the iPod.

Edit: It was a present. And I'll bet it was already used when my sister got it two years previously. Walking around with hilariously crappy, outdated electronic gadgets is a fashion statement for me.

Maybe the people naming this product had the right marketing idea: Instead of trying to break into the oversaturated high tech market in places like California, they are going for the underserved demographic in the deep south. How many high tech companies actually try to market specifically to KKK members? :P

I'm sure that companies would go for it if it wasn't for the likely hood that lawsuits would break them. Perhaps they'll have more success next season with their next line of carbon neutral products: the iBeat "off" line.

And Singapore is known for its comparatively high standard of English comprehension, especially in international business. So if the i.Beat Blaxx name was really a mistake, it was an inexcusable one.

It seems like no one noticed that the product color, black, when placed after the product name created that phrase. It probably made lots of sense in Singapore.

I think that I get points for trying until someone else finds a better reason to stick "off" in that equation. Even then, I get some points. I could have just mentioned the possibility that a new product in the line could be named off without trying to explain why that might be. Perhaps that's what Eph means. Regardless, it fails to really matter.
