Yes, it's like most SW games. You download the whole thing, but can only unlock the later stuff once you pay. -------------------- Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup. Posts: 256 | Registered: Monday, October 8 2001 07:00 |

If you don't mind the lack of detailed graphics and the fact that they don't have much of a plot, roguelikes are fun, and and are usually free. I reccomend you check out ToME, Hengband, and NetHack, and if the graphics really bother you, look into NetHack - Falcon's Eye, or SlashEM. I also really liked Taskmaker, and Tomb of the Taskmaker, although these are not so good by modern standards. They were originally shareware, but they stopped selling them a long time ago, and they have released the registration codes onto the internet. If you prefer slightly more modern games, I liked Hexen 2, Nanosaur 2, and Marbleblast. Also, while not strictly a game, Second Life is worth looking in to, and also can be obtained for free, but it requires a fast and modern computer with a good internet connection, and requires you to provide a credit card number or cell phone number for identification. Edit: Falcon's Eye can't be obtained for Mac, and the Mac version of SlashEM doesn't support 3d tiles. Everything else can be found for Mac, if you look hard enough. For something really old, check out the Colossal Cave Adventure Page (www.rickadams.org/adventure/). It contains downloadable PC versions of the text based Adventure game, hints, walkthroughs, history, trivia, and a long essay on writing a decent game. I've only tried the Mac version and it uses MAC OS 9 Classic to run. There are DOS and other versions. Also there are several extended versions with extra rooms. No graphics, character creation, automapping, and all the other crutches that you normally use. Just you and a paper map that you create as you figure out the puzzles. This is the great grandfather of all fantasy games. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

There are some really great IF games out there. I believe that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy IF game (find it and play it on bbc.com) is better than 99% of all RPGs (excluding the Geneforge and Avernum series, KOTOR, and a few others). -------------------- Polaris Posts: 193 | Registered: Thursday, April 6 2006 07:00 |

quote:Seconded. I found that a few days ago, and loved it. Now I need to find some place to get the full game. I think I can find a copy in fairly good shape for about $30, but that seems a bit much for a game that will only run in Classic, thus not being immediately playable on my next machine. Still, the game is probably worth $30 anyway, and I plan on keeping this AlBook for a while, so I'll most likely end up going for that. If anyone around here has the Mac version and would be willing to sell it, I'd be quite grateful. Oh, I'm currently on a Chrono Trigger binge, but that's slightly expensive to find legally these days. It's a rather addicting game, with a quite twisty storyline, and is hailed by some as one of the best games of all time. -------------------- Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup. You could just search google. Fine, I'll do your grunt work. PC demo here. Mac demo here. Information here. Official website here, but it appears to be down at the moment. EDIT: See Thuryl? I'm all nice and helpful :P . [ Saturday, May 06, 2006 16:13: Message edited by: Little Billy Sue ] -------------------- But I don't want to ride the elevator.
