I'm sure someone here must know this. My brother was telling me about Halo recently and referred to it as a "first-person shootout" game. I could have sworn that it was called a first-person shooter. Which is correct? Or are both terms used? -------------------- A C, an E-flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. Ambrin walks up to them and says, "Hey! It's the Triad!" I know FPS, namely First Person Shooter. I think your brother is wrong, you are right then. :) -------------------- Download Geneforge 4: Rebellion You have 6 posts. I thought so. He is, after all, only 11 years old. :D Although he does play more video games than I do, since he is in sixth grade and therefore (almost by definition) has way too much time on his hands to do such things. It's definitely "first-person shooter." I've also heard this genre referred to as "shoot 'em up"... but that is too incorrect. "Shoot 'em ups" are those where you stand there with a light gun (or similar) and shoot the screen full of badly rendered FMV baddies. At least, that's what we always deducted back in the arcades of the "old days." -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

I miss the good ole days of Street Fighters, Mortal Kombats and even the first one I played, which I think was Brutal. T'has been a while since I've paid homage to the good ole fashion beat 'em ups. Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

I'm fairly certain it's "first-person shooter". I used to play Marathon with my brother when I was little (think I was about 10 when it came out). I used to like games like Mortal Kombat, but more so games like myst. [ Saturday, April 15, 2006 14:44: Message edited by: Aurelia ] Posts: 2032 | Registered: Wednesday, January 26 2005 08:00 |

Yup, first person shooter is correct. Also third person shooter, too, I think. Someone should invent a second-person shooter game sometime... Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Yeah, like those attempts at books (mostly avant-garde I think) written in the second person… :D (Edit: ooh! eleventy-one posts! ^_^) [ Saturday, April 15, 2006 18:09: Message edited by: Erika Maroonmark ] -------------------- A C, an E-flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. I would think that a second-person perspective wouldn't work in that situation because the focus of your view would be at your character and not at what is happening around your character. -------------------- DONOR Fat Freddys Drop Shirow Miwa Posts: 1112 | Registered: Friday, July 19 2002 07:00 |

Or maybe you'd control a character who was looking straight at the camera, and the camera was the perspective of whatever bad guy the character happened to be shooting… :D [ Sunday, April 16, 2006 12:33: Message edited by: Erika Maroonmark ] -------------------- A C, an E-flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. I suppose it could be a a First person shootout if the characters were playing hockey. -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |
