Tomorrow (wednesday) is Pesach, the Jewish easter. I would like to take this moment to say happy Pesach to all Jews and Israelis on these boards.

(And I'm sorry if this proovs to be a useless topic, but sending a whole bunch of PM's just didn't seem very handy)

That's how we the Dutch call it, although its really not that. What the hell do I care.

Merry matzah day! May your breadlessness be fruitful.

Wait! What?
Okay... I realize that Thursday is Passover, but my roommate (who is Jewish) has never heard of Pesach before.
Could somebody explain he point of the holiday?

The Silent Assassin has decided to take a weekend off for Easter, and hopes to get some housework done while he's here.
My list of stuff for him to do:
Put the oven and microwave back together.
Clean out the Jellyfish tank.
Run out to home Depot and get a lawnmower and weed killer.
And those are just the beginning.

Peseach is the hebrew word for Passover. Or, more accurately, Passover is the english word for Pesach. It starts Wednesday night. At sunset, the same as all Jewish holidays.

Why not?

Take matzah, smear some tomato sauce on it, sprinkle mozzerella cheese on it and throw it into the oven.

Remember, if not for innovation, humans would be just another animal.

Blech. Matzah, while tasty in cracker-like form, is a bad substitue for bread. You wouldn't make matzah ball soup "bread ball soup", would you? Then please, major corporations, no matzah stuffing!

EDIT: Or matzah bread crumbs! Or matzah cereal!

Actually, my family ends Passover with pizza for dinner. We've done it for as long as I can remember.

The Last Supper of Christ was a Passover (Pesach) meal. That's why the holidays of Easter and Passover are so close together.

Happy holidays to the other Jews out there.

Matzah is supposed to remind you of the suffering. It's not called the bread of affliction for nothing when you use it for sandwiches. One careless bite and your sandwich shatters.

Happy Passover to everybody here who celebrates it.

Randomizer, that's an interesting observation about meaning of matza sandwiches. I haven't thought of that before.

Nicothodes, pizza at Passover dinner? lol
That reminds me of a friend from college, who didn't follow laws of Kashrut, but observed laws of Passover. Some of the things she ate during Passover were quite unexpected. (Although I don't think there were any matza-bacon-and-cheese sandwiches. :) )

Eww :P

Any adaptations of non-pasadic meals for passover are just awful in general. I'd rather just eat passover specials like matzah ball soup or matzah fry/brei.

*giggle*
I'm all in favour of matzah meal versions of real food. Passover is one of my least favourite times of year– there's so little you can eat that's actually GOOD. *sigh* I've gotten through about 2 Passovers without giving up + starting to eat bread again. Out of sixteen. XD (Well, for the first couple I didn't eat bread because I didn't eat real *food*…)

Is it just me, or does the active member population seem disproportionately Jewish? I have nothing against Jews, but I'm curious what makes Spiderweb such a Jew-magnet.

Interestingly enough, I work at a grocery store, and we sell more challah bread during Passover than any other time of the year. Now, if Jews can't eat levened bread during Passover, who the heck is buying all that challah?

My roommate would like me to interject on behalf of Messianic Jews converted from Islam, and says that only the ceremonial food sucks. They do it as tradition.
Now, the meal that comes in the middle of the ceremony, he says, is generally very good, especially if you don't have to worry about the Kosher laws.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my rommate is actually actively avoiding Spiderweb, under the claims that the game look low-quality.
I think he doesn't want to risk enjoying a game that doesn't use 100% processing power in his PC's video card.

That is exactly what a friend of mine ordered during passover last year.

10 people out of 200+ active members doesn't look that disproportionate. (5% might be a bit higher than general population, but not by much.)

As for sales of challah during passover, that's weird. Maybe some people that go to your store confused challah and matza? :)

PS Nico, sorry about misreading your post. I probably shouldn't have been posting at the time when I should have been asleep.

Well, maybe people want to buy leaven to find and burn– but why it would have to be challah is beyond me. XD I actually don't know.

Wow. I seem to have tried to edit my post to fix a typo, but quoted it instead. Sorry.

The customers may not be Jewish. Once in college on a Sunday I got woken up by a delivery. I'm looking through the box that I had forgotten about ordering and started naming the contents: bagels, cream cheese, lox, .... My Catholic roommate jumps out of bed and says, "I'll get you a knife." That's when I found out how much he liked Jewish foods.
