Shamefully presenting the Spiderweb Message Boards Type Indicator (SMBTI) Users are evaluated on four scales: Flamer (F) vs. Victim (V) Do they attack others, or do they get attacked? Yeller (Y) vs. Spammer (S) Do they get themselves noticed by saying a few retch-inducing things, or by flooding the boards with posts? Thinking (T) vs. New Age (N) Are they a cold, emotionless drone, or a saccharine, vacuous romantic? And finally, I could not leave out the self-explantory Prescriptivist (P) vs. Descriptivist (D) These four categories combine to form sixteen types. For example: TM is the FYTD "Fixed Your Typo, Dolt" — Flamer, Yeller, Thinking, Descriptivist EDF is the VSNP "Natural Born Newbie" — Victim, Spammer, New Age, Prescriptivist SMBTI can be used to help explore interpersonal conflict. For example, we can analyze the recent conflict between Kelandon (FYTP "Fixed Your Grammatical Error") and Synergy (FSNP "Everybody Hug, Or Else") as a classic YT vs. SN conflict. ;) Slartucker (FSND "Philosophizing Wanker") -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

At this point, I am reminded of Dareva's signature. I could contest several aspects of that description of me. Self-explanatory? Not to me. What would I be, on that scale? Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

I appreciate that TM can include FYT, but I feel that a critical element of humor has been omitted by failure to create more opportunity for humorous acronyms. More importantly, analysis of the sixteen groups is conspicuously absent. —Alorael, who supposes there has to be some room left for an encore. I'd call Kel a vSnP and Synergy a VSND. The "conflict" just so happens because both of them are insufferably histrionic. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

V/F seems much more related to Newbie/Oldbiehood than to personal levels of aggression. Or, looking at it another way, perhaps staying around Spiderweb a long time induces one to build a basic level of online aggression? FSNP, perhaps? I tend between idealism and cynicism quite frequently, but compared to the average I'm rather on the New Age, Prescriptivist than on the Thinking, Descriptivist side. However, without a quiz to go with this four-scaled system, self-analysis is worthless. :P [ Wednesday, February 15, 2006 20:33: Message edited by: Arancaytar the Grey ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Honestly, I figured I'd wasted enough time on it already. I am amused, however, to see that it is being taken so seriously. In case it wasn't clear, this was a light-hearted joke, and the continuums I used are WAY too sketchily described to really apply well to anyone. That said, obviously you pick the side someone leans to. My reasoning behind Kel's typing, for example, is that he's critical and explains things in relative brevity, and of course he was half the basis for the T vs. N joke. Aran, you're right about V/F. I wanted something akin to predator/prey, but since most people are really neither, it becomes: do they correct other people when they say stupid things? You do. I was going to slot you in as FSND. You're definitely a D, at any rate, from what I've seen of you. Edit: It occurs to me that these line up with the actual MBTI in some amusing ways. MBTI Ns tend to be more verbose than Ss online. Thinking/New Age is obviously Thinking/Feeling. And Prescriptivism and Descriptivism actually parallel J and P pretty closely. Let's look at Dikiyoba's stats. Dikiyoba's probably a victim, but Dikiyoba honestly doesn't care. A for apathy. Yeller vs. Spammer. Look at post count vs. time. Definitely S for spammer. But with occasional good things to say. Dikiyoba hates romance, so has to go with T for thinker. Admittedly, Dikiyoba is humorous and creative to a fault. But that takes thought. Probably a descriptivist, but it's getting too late to think it through. Must not fall asleep before completing homework... So, Dikiyoba is a ASTD. Who has a good acronym? Hmm. Let's see. I have an unwholesome addiction to these things. FYN, for sure. Not entirely certain about the last bit, though. Kel, embracing one's bitter shellhood is quite healthy. I suggest it, but only as often as can be done without inducing blindness...and while one can remember that one has changed one's signature. That does it. Someone wake me up when I start making sense. [ Wednesday, February 15, 2006 21:42: Message edited by: dareva ] Posts: 437 | Registered: Sunday, July 13 2003 07:00 |

This is quite interesting... by self-examination, all I can get is fynp... nothing terribly strong in any direction. This definitely needs a quiz, as Aran said. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Well, it looks like I'll have to refine the typology and maybe put a test together. I'll do that tomorrow. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |
