We've had a thread like this before, where we posted our lat/long coordinates to have some fun with Google Earth.

This is a lot more convenient, for one thing because it's browser-based:

Where are Spiderweb members?

Just add yourself if you want to - it only notes your city, not your exact location, so there is little risk to privacy in any case.

I'm not sure if I really want to blurt out my exact position on the web, although it would be fun. You know, some invisible newbie may get unpleasant ideas...

You should always watch what personal information you are publicizing.

In my case, publicizing my current city (Aachen) reduces little of my anonymity firstly because it's been mentioned in so many places and secondly because Aachen isn't that small. ;)

However, as I said, the exact location is left alone; it only requires the city (or Zip if you live in the US).

I don't care who knows what city I live in.

It would however suck bigtime if when I get back into teaching, I ran into a student online.

I'm on the map now, and if anyone evil wants to track me down, they'll have to figure out which student I am on campus.

Duplicate removed.

I don't think it's possible to edit, but I doubt it will grow to such gigantic proportions it can't be administered manually. So if you want something taken down or changed, just drop a post.

As you can see, it's still in beta. I found it when someone posted a link on another board and thought it would be interesting to try out.

v_v It doesn't work for me, I tried IE and Mozilla. It says "invalid city" and does not register. I tried "Zürich" and "Zuerich".

Any hints how to subscribe?

edit: ;_; Netscape doesn't work either, but gives a programm crash when I enter the city.

Derby (UK) exists. Unfortunately. SO does Gloucester, but that's another story for another day.

Okay, so.. my computer seems to be working now.. I put down mine a couple of hours ago, but then my comp- no, exploder get getting frozen, then my computer would just not do anything, and I shut it down. Yeah.

Anyway, my picture's an avatar I made. I figured it'd be good publicity, or something, maybe.

Whoops... posted my home zip code instead of my university's. But then again, they're both in St. Louis.

Odd... three of us are from Missouri?

None of you could find me on campus anyway, since I've been trapped in my dorm room by a mountain of homework as of late.

:( Now, that's a shame! My big home city with half a million inhabitants is "invalid" but a small suburb is on the list T_T

*subscribes under small suburb*
But so you know: I don't live in Zollikon ^_^

This map is rather vague, but it's at least better than Google Earth.

And where are all the Australians? Is it two in the morning there?

Edit: I'm retarded and don't understand the concept of a non-static view point. That's why I couldn't see any Australians; they were off the map!

I'm there. I was just at school the past 6 hours.
And I added myself, as well. Don't ask me what "Shzoop" means because I don't know.

I'd add myself, but these newfangled map whosits never work right for me. All I see is a bunch of broken-image placeholders. Probably some overly-paranoid security setting of my browser.
