It wasn't a cliche (accent unbale to be found) until George Lucas made the film.

The entirety of Star Wars is a cliche. It's a Western set in space, and it's not even the first Western to be set in space. :P

The music of John Williams along with some unprecedented special affects is what really took the original Star Wars from mediocre to memorable. Lucas was smart enough to cast some real talent for his older actors: Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing. Since then (Episode IV & V), the franchise quickly went downhill and degenerated into insulting kiddie fare with too many ongoing relational coincidences (everyone seems to be related to Luke) considering the scale of the galaxy.

Has anyone seen the twenty minute satire movie "George Lucas in Love"? Now that's funny stuff.

Luke certainly got around the universe. Screw the rebellion he was after Empire hotties.

You know, that makes me think of something else odd about Lucas' Universe...a consideraable lack of female presence. We get the token primary girl in way of Leia or Padme, but after that...it's just a few odd mothers here and there or some alien nasties which •might• be female. This briefly improved when we got the female assassin in the Clone Wars episode.

Lucas is boringly male-centric, kind of like a pre-adolescent boy. And despite VCH's reference to Empire hotties, where do you ever see one?

May the farce be with you.

Maybe some of the Empire's storm troopers are female?

Darth Vader never said "Luke, I am your father."

He said "No. I am your father."

Stormtroopers are all clones, of a man, therefore none are female. However, officers and non-clones could certainly be female. In fact, many are. I would make many references to the post-VI era (novels, comic books), but... I don't feel like nerding myself out right now.

The majority during the Civil War are indeed still clones of Jango Fett, re-outfitted from the Clone Wars.

New recruits are real, but even then, the Empire is sexist and only recruits males.

Hey: I've never seen the movie. At least I know a line of it.

Edit: ohhhh yeah. I've always known is from a movie, but I never thought about it in relation with Star Wars.

Edit2: the above edit is for Ash's post of course.

Surely two, or have you never heard "May the Force be with you"?

(As a side note, I always feel compelled to say "And also with you" when someone says that line)

You know, I'm not really that excited about it at all. But you going all bonkers over it is uplifting.

I wouldn't even have nown it's coming out, but now, on tuesday I'll remember that you're probably already glued to the TV after waiting so anxiously.

It will make my day a bit happier to know that soemone else is happy :)

IT'S FINALLY HERE!

I saw it on DVD yesterday, and was reminded of how great it is! To celebrate the release, I changed my title at the Lyceum!

My parents bought it for me, saying that "If we rented it, we'd probably have to rent it 50 times" :P

I just loved it. That's all.
