1. What does the ranking Canned mean? 2. Why does TM have it all of a sudden? *sigh* 1. Canned is a title you get as a result of excessive spam or continued doing of something generally unacceptible to the boards. Basically, it's a warning to mellow down and follow the rules a little stricter of else risk being banned. 2. TM has this title now because he deserved it. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

An expaination of the meaning of Canned should be put somewhere where people will see it. I was thinking that the CoC would be a good place, but it seems a lot of people that come to these boards don't read that anyway. I never did, since it's pretty easy to not get in trouble if you just use common sense. Oh, and this thread should be locked unless someone wants to say someting relating to my post. -------------------- Important Information about Stuff Posts: 258 | Registered: Wednesday, March 9 2005 08:00 |

If it's not in the CoC, which nobody seems to read, or the FAQ, which also tends to go unread, what's left? These boards don't support stickied threads. —Alorael, who would be saddened by the very sparse Spiderweb that would exist if all topics that could be locked were locked. You could just put a large link to the CoC in the forum header. -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Is it there?(FAQ or COC) I ought to read those, as summer break has started and I have time for such things. If it isn't there, it should go there. There really is nothing much to be said about this topic's original topic that I see, except what I said and maybe there's something to be said about the canning of TM, although most of what could be said has been said. Now that I think of it, many good topics start out like that (with not much to say about them), so I should probably be less quick on asking for locks for topics. While I'm writing this, I'll post an idea I had that is interesting but doesn't deserve it's own thread. Since the major things of this board seem to be insanity and debates, why not a debate on an insane topic? -------------------- Important Information about Stuff Posts: 258 | Registered: Wednesday, March 9 2005 08:00 |

I actually read the CoC today. It's amazing how often it's violated, with every offtopic post (so about 90% of all posts here) and just about every debate bieng a violation. I have yet to read the FAQ, as I haven't found it yet. Could someone point out it's location to me? -------------------- Important Information about Stuff Posts: 258 | Registered: Wednesday, March 9 2005 08:00 |

The FAQ is located in the upper right hand corner near the "my profile" link. It's also right here. —Alorael, who does not believe that FYT has ever been used to actually fix a typo before. That may not even be proper usage at all. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I wouldn't think so, as it just looks like something built into the UBB and not something that looks editable. Also, if it was editable, I'm sure it would have been edited before, but there's nothing Spiderweb specific in there to signify that its been edited. -------------------- Important Information about Stuff Posts: 258 | Registered: Wednesday, March 9 2005 08:00 |

The CoC's wording is sufficiently confusing that a good amount of posts that aren't breaks of any sane CoC could be rigidly construed as such. However, none of the moderators actually lock threads for that. For practical purposes, these forums are run under a fairly boilerplate code of conduct. Aside from the usual prohibitions against being spammy, offensive, or stupidly off-topic that are on almost all moderated forums, the Spidweb boards only have two rules (as of my memory at the time of this post) that stand out: Don't talk about pirating Spidweb games. I mean... these are the company's message boards. Don't do it. It's dumb. :P Don't call for anyone who hasn't done something glaringly offensive to leave the boards, or to be banned. Don't call for moderators who haven't done something glaringly offensive to have their moderator status revoked. For an example of glaringly offensive, look at EraserHead. --- To answer the topic creator's question, canned is one letter away from being banned, and TM would be wise to remember this. :P Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I can edit the FAQ, but I have not found it necessary to do so. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy desperance.net - We're Everywhere ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse!
