Sadly, I don't consider anything below the top few to be "recent".

And if people asked a question, then clearly they haven't seen it, nor ever will.

A-thank you.

Wait wait wait... then who's the one from the car wreck? There definitely IS someone recently in a similiar case about a car wreck... Maybe that's more local.

But you are right, I probably shouldn't talk about something I've made every effort to ignore.

Wow I'm so glad Terri Schiavo won't be talked about for a couple of weeks. But then there's the pope. I find that pretty boring too.

I knew he would eventually die. He has been not too well for a while now.

Right. Because having the fourth-longest Papacy in history, being the first Pope to set foot in Greece since the Schism, the first Pope to set foot in Israel, a synagogue, or a mosque period, putting more ecumenical outreach programs than previously imagined possible into action, and serving as a visible, personally vital and powerful symbol of the biggest single Christian Church on Earth for almost three decades is nothing much.

He fought war, he fought the Soviets and the excesses of capitalism. Yeah, he also fought abortion, contraception, and ordainment of women, but he was the frigging Pope. What are we supposed to expect?

No matter what you think about his personal politics, you have to admit that John Paul II was a good man, a great Pope, and quite likely the single greatest public figure we will have seen in our lifetimes. And that's worthy of a little respect.

I knew nothing about the pope's ecumenical actions.

Forgive my ignorance beyond belief.

However, having a long life-span and setting foot on Greece or Israel isn't directly beneficial at all.

It's certainly a start. In these times, especially religions need leaders that are ready to reach out to the rest of the world.

So do countries, of course, but religions generally hold more sway.

Lots of periodicals are recounting his accomplishments. I'm pretty sure you can find relevant information on John Paul II here, here, or here.

Hey I got an idea. It's been days since the popes dead. Let's lock this topic and not talk about him anymore.

I don't think that that will advantage anyone.

What's up with you anyway? Did the pope kill your best friend or something?

Cmon. The news subject on the pope is boring enough. How much funner can a forum topic be?

If a topic is boring, it dies on its own. No need to lock it.

Topics are only locked because of irrelevance or if the discussion becomes out of hand. This applies to neither.

- : Please respect other people here. Just because you find a certain topic boring does not mean that someone else on these boards is not interested. Believe it or not, the world does not adhere to your tastes.

I agree with *i. If you don't like the topic, don't join in. Simple.
