Oh my. And here I was thinking by now we'd be safe from that bug. I wonder what triggers it, anyway. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I was almost affected by this bug yesterday. I tried to load the index page and it said my member number was not found or something like that. Anyway, as long as you don't log out or delete the cookie, you should be fine. Actually, the whole boards were down for a while yesterday (23:00 to midnight GMT, specifically) with the message that Member Number 00000021 was corrupted (you had to be quick because soon afterward the Maintainance Alert was put up). Saunders' demise took the whole forum down with it. -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! I managed to restore the boards, but not Saunders' account or a topic from General. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy desperance.net - We're Everywhere ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! Poor Saunders. I'll vote 5 stars to help make up for it. Is there any chance that the old members who lose their accounts can be given access to old, unused accounts with low member numbers? Seems kind of fitting, and I've always liked recycling... -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon Polaris = joy. I've thought about it. It makes sense, but I honestly don't think Drakey would do that. In practical terms, he's re-using empty accounts. In official terms, however, he would be confiscating users' accounts and redistributing them to other users, which would strike one as a very unorthodox practice. -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Besides, a new account wouldn't be Saunders. No, the true way is for us all to have a funeral for the old account and then a party for the new one! Allow me to be the first to say, "Welcome back to Spiderweb! You now owe the door one sanity." —Alorael, who would also like to point out that the boards don't function well without Saunders. Keep that in mind! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Let me just add this: How on Earth can you give away TWO sanities? The first possibility is that Saunders cheated and didn't put hers at the door the first time. But that is hardly possible; someone would have noticed. So what happens when you put your sanity there a second time? Do you achieve some kind of 'hyper'-insanity that is even further removed from sense? Or do you develop a 'meta'-insanity, an 'insanity beyond insanity' that would be indistinguishable from a quasi-lucid state? Truly, reincarnation is a wondrous issue... I lost my sanity, the first time, then I was shocked back into having a different sanity, now I'm losing it, again. Sanity is more a concept, than anything that is truly measurable. It's interpretted and examined. You can lose one, but rebuild it. It's not the same sanity, but it's still sanity. Here endeth the madness. -------------------- Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silencio Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

Don't be silly. You have to leave your sanity at the door, but Saunders never retrieved hers. Now she needs to leave another, which she doesn't have. That leave her with a net sanity debt of 1. —Alorael, who wonders what the door does with all the collected sanities. You don't suppose this is all a front for some charitable organization helping the criminally insane, do you? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You'll be like a phoenix, rising from the flames in a more wonderful and powerful and essentially awesome way than ever before. Being from South America (Venezuela, right?) I think he does. (That is: He is from there, not I, as the preceding sentence's ambiguous structure might otherwise be interpreted). :) By the way, it is usual for members here to address one another by acronyms of their names if thse are two words or longer, especially if they change it often. Thus, 'BSC'. Edit: And what is "Telaraca"? [ Tuesday, March 01, 2005 22:25: Message edited by: Daryl Mycroft [Arancaytar] ] -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! No idea. I simply translated it. Edit: What is so good about low member numbers? Am I right by saying that it simply looks good, or is there are different meaning? La Telarana = The Spiderweb. I should have known, really. *smacks self* Edit: First: A low member number indicates long-standing membership of the community and thus experience and reputation. Second: There are infinitely more high member numbers than low ones. It is thus much harder to obtain a low number than a high one. In fact, it is infinitely easy to get an account with the highest number there is (register a new one), and nearly infinitely difficult to get one with any other number than the highest. Thus, economic principle dicates that low member numbers are more precious than high ones. Thank you all for your kindness. I have been operating with a borrowed sanity that one of the devoured invisible newbies had managed to secrete about his person, but which the door has taken and on which it is perfoming its unspeakable acts. -------------------- I am a pale shadow of the previous self. quote: Deep down, you know you should have voted for Alcritas! The door is in cahoots with the wolf? My God, the conpiracy is greater than I feared! —Alorael, who thinks that an old account is like the metaphorical old boot. It's comfortable and worn in. Getting used to a new account takes effort and suffering and... okay, so it's not a great metaphor. Oh well. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Well man, sorry about that Saunders. You'd think they'd have that bug fixed by now, whatever it is. Does anyone know what causes it? That won't make one bit of difference. We have a few hundred active members and another few times that many active accounts, and Saunders is well-liked by most. ;) -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki!
